Amazon is offering pre-orders for an ASUS wireless router RT-AC68A for $114.99 + free shipping.

Link here [amazon.com]

This should be a good deal if the specs are the same as the AC68U.

Does anyone know the difference in the specs between this and the RT-AC68U? Searched for RT-AC68A on this forum, deal talk, and Google with no results. Any help would be appreciated. Also reached out to ASUS support and waiting for a response. I apologize if I am posting in the wrong forum. Thanks.

here's my understanding:

AC68U and AC68R are identical, the difference being U is online product and R is retail store product.

AC68P is Best Buy exclusive with better CPU (1GHz vs 800MHz) and faster USB3.0 port (3.0 port on U/R doesn't run at full speed) than the U/R.

Not sure yet if the AC68A is the better P model or same as U/R models.

This is a heck of a deal and I wish I didn't already buy the AC68R for $140 clearance from Target.

I know there's a 68P that is Best Buy exclusive with a different Broadcom chip. This may be similar and Amazon now has the rights for an exclusive model as well.

I wonder if this new model will have a locked boot loader so no ddwrt, merlin, etc. Per the new FCC ruling about radio output.

how did you find your info? i cannot find anything.

at this price it is very tempting to purchase and return the tmobile version one since it has old hardware.

You're right, I conflated someone's answers regarding the P model with the A so I can't say for sure this is a P model. Stay tuned for details or contact Amazon and Asus for details.

I bought the RT-AC68R 2 weeks ago and love it. Got it for 105 no tax, free shipping, open box. should I keep it or get this one?

Question for people in the know. I bought the Asus ac3100 and before that tried the ac68p from best buy and I'm not really noticing any differences and I'm using an arris 6148 modem and Comcast 150mbps down. Just wondering if I'm better saving the money and going with this? Looking for more knowledge. Thank you
