I had thought about this, but then the LG G Pad 7.0 F was also avaliable from Freedompop for $50 as well. I wasn't sure which to go with, but so far I think I picked well.

Neither are really high end models, but the LG does come with the option to upgrade to Android 5. I believe it's also quad core vs. the Samsung's dual core? Not sure.

Does anyone know if you can just buy, then cancel once you get the tablet? Or do you have to stick around for a bit to avoid any additional fees?

You may very well be able to cancel outright for free.

In my experience, downgrading to the free plans was painless & free. However, disabling auto top-up required I have $5 in Freedompop credit (supposedly to prevent overages).

Still, $55 + $5 for the Samsung (or $50 + $5 for the LG) tablet is pretty good for a tablet that you get at least 500 MB/month for free w/o overages.

Update: Pulled the trigger and bought a white Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. I owe a friend a birthday present, and they wish to have an Android tablet to replace their Amazon Fire (great device, but lack of Android app store can be a PITA for more advanced users). I'll see what I get when it gets here, compare the Freedompop Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 to the LG G Pad 7.0 F - see which of the two budget Freedompop refurbs is king. Then gift the excess to friends.

(edit) Also, do oneself a favor and follow the cash back steps in the previous Freedopop discussion: http://slickdeals.net/f/8483369-freedompop-netgear-341u-usb-modem-lte-certified-pre-owned-20-more-free-s-h?src=SiteSearch

Save yourself an extra $15 in cash back potentially.

Yeah, I was mainly looking to use this as a cheap-o solution to try and control some of my home theater stuff via IR. I can certainly live with parting with $5 as a safety net.

Thanks for the info.

So no contract required right? We can just pay $55 and be done with it and have a tablet?

Also, any opinions on LG vs Samsung?

Also, my urlhasbeenblocked bar is offering $5 if you look into some cashback options (not sure if it applies to this deal but still worth noting/checking)

On that regard, I know that the LG also does IR as well.

I don't have the Samsung in hand to compare the two yet, but I can speak for the LG. Great as a tablet, but a few small quirks:

1. While the LG runs on Android 5.0.1, it is quirky. Apps do not update/install without the Play Store running in the foreground. Google Keyboard also has a lag on Swyping, but the LG default does not.
2. There are no good aftermarket case fits for the Sprint LK430. I ultimately made do with the best of the worst fits.

Hardware wise? Pretty good experience thus far.

Is the LG still going for $50? I'd like to get my hands on that. Do you know if it has GPS? I can't see all the details atm.

Thanks

i have this and it's a good solid tablet, but quite slow. i only use it to read news at night, so not a big deal for me. no more firmware updates from samsung so you are stuck with Android 4.2 unless you want to load custom rom, not worth it imo

i'd say $50 is not slick, it's just a fair price

I believe OTA updates bring it to 4.4.2, correct? I recall seeing this update capacity on a few of the promotional materials.
