Anybody know if the one year starts right when you purchase it or only after you activate it? Thanks.

I am currently about 18 months into a 2 year Bitdefender subscription. It stated when I installed and activated it. so, I would assume that would apply here.

Simple answer: Yes

Explained by reviewers:
Via TopTenReviews [toptenreviews.com]

"If you are going to spring for Bitdefender Internet Security, you might as well step all the way to the post and get Bitdefender Total Security... Of course, it contains all of the features included with Bitdefender Internet Security. But you don't really need Bitdefender's firewall, since you can use the better one in Windows. And unless you have children, parental controls are nothing to you. The extra features unique to Bitdefender Total Security, on the other hand, are things that everybody needs for increased safety: file encryption, device antitheft and secure online storage... "

I'll probably bite on this when I get home. I'm about 4 months in to Bitdefender's 6 month free trial and I haven't had any issues.

But you should get a NEW activation code that will start a new time period the day you buy it.

Think of Internet Security (Bitdefender vs Kaspersky) as the mid-tier of these security product lines, and Total Security (BD and Kas) as the premium-overall security package. I'm no pro expert in the ever changing landscape of security protection, but hopefully the following links can help provide an overview and differences between the 2 companies' products:

Low-Tier = Basic Antivirus [tomsguide.com]
Mid-Tier = Internet Security [tomsguide.com]
Top-Tier = Total Security [tomsguide.com]

ALSO: Reading and having experienced myself the Mail-in-rebate process with Kaspersky, they are TERRIBLE!
