I have an i7 with 2x GTX760 video - i dont play pc games often (ever) but think I might have a try seeing as xbox is quiet right now.

What video card should I get? budget is $2k tops - will my current motherboard handle it? ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO

as far as your mobo handling more, probably. you'd have to check and see what PCI version it has. if you are running sli in 3.0 at x8, i think it is limited to 8GB/s.

you have two 760s? so that has maybe about the same amount of power as a 970 i think. i guess it depends what you want to play, what res you are playing at and if you wan tot pay and how much you are trolling?

Your budget for a video card is $2000 at the max?

What all games do you want to play or would consider on a PC?

Clearly with what we've been given it's safe to assume a dedicated occulus for each eye. laugh out loud

With such a high budget I would wait til the next round of GPUs come out in the next couple of months.

It is for a rift. I preordered a couple of the vr headsets for my ps4s and then started googling. Ended up on YouTube then rift website. I have a budget of 2k as anything more would be overkill given I rarely play pc games. I'd rather spend 1200 than 2k though of course!

From mobo page.

2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8, red)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (black) *1
3 x PCIe 2.0 x1 *2

i have no idea what works good with rift or what you'd need to power one.

Well here are the supported video cards for Rift on this page [trionworlds.com]. I'd just go with a EVGA Titan GPU [evga.com] and be done with it if you're going to spend that much on a video card. They crank and if they can't render Rift for you on the highest settings then I'm not sure what all will.

they have "vr ready" gpus such as one evga 980ti ! I suggest you get sli 980ti as they over clock to Titan speeds pretty easily and you won't use that much vram unless you do other things besides gaming

Not rift as in a game - oculus rift as in vr.

So you'd go two 980ti vs a single Titan?

yeah I don't think a Titan has enough power on its own for future vr sets . I would really suggest waiting for pascal but if you want it now get sli 980ti. I have a hybrid 980ti which runs quiet and cool under load

In either case, a single Titan X should still do the trick. However, going double GTX 980 Ti would be more powerful than a single Titan X, but also about $300ish more as well. Still all within your budget but just giving a heads up on it.
