THIS IS A GREAT DEAL!!!

I just bought an i5 and MSI Z170A KRAIT motherboard from Newegg 2 days ago that is currently being shipped in the mail as I write this.

I paid $239.99 for the i5, and $148.99 for the motherboard...

Total after tax comes out to ~$420 for California, and because BNH doesn't charge California sales tax, I'm basically paying the same price but getting an i7 rather than i5... definitely worth the buy!! The Newegg items are going back in the mail as soon as they get here LOL!!

The mobo is virtually the same, I know most people don't give a damn about having 3x PCIE slots, but I actually plan to run a crossfire setup, so it's semi-important that I have the slots. Overall, it's a solid motherboard...

For those of you guys arguing that this isn't a good deal, currently the i7-6700k is selling for ~$360 and throw in this same MOBO for ~$150, you're looking to spend ~$550 after taxes if you're a California shopper buying everything from Newegg or Amazon, so you're saving ~$130 on this deal.... Like I said, you're getting the i7-6700k at the i5-6600k price.

Quad Core i7 are far from the top of the line IMHO. Decent deal though. Smilie

I don't know why everyone is obsessed with 6700k for gaming. An i5 6500 is powerful enough not to bottleneck a GTX 980 TI. Is there really any benefit in gaming to paying extra for 6700k? (I have regular 6700)

I don't see it as future proofing. New CPUs with new architecture and features will hit the market no matter how fast someone OCs theirs. LOL

sounds like it's only "bragging rights" as mentioned above.

There are currently games that are using the extra horsepower of the I7.
A famous one is Fallout 4. Any dx12 title also uses it. There are many others, but feel free to do your own research as it is in fact a case by case basis and largely applies to newer games that release.

As for the deal, it's meh for those like myself who get charged tax t.t

You're correct. No use in gaming.

By the time a 6500K or even a 4790 bottlenecks a GPU, a new CPU of next gen in the 6500K price range will be out that beats a 6700K.

Also, Directx 12 is supposed to move us away from heavy CPU loads.
