Cheap/easy way to Stream videos? (and play Blu Rays)

sard 522 19 April 6, 2016 at 10:30 AM
Even though my technological stash is barely above the Amish level (I have a 32 inch flat screen and a dvd player) I decided to move a little into the technical level of this century.

I just got Netflix and am considering getting some Blu Ray discs.

What is a good (but cheap) way to watch Netflix on my tv? Google Chrome? Firestick? Roku? (all I need is to stream Netflix and maybe Youtube and Pandora)

Question 2 (which might incorporate the answer from question 1) - what about if I decide to get blu ray? is there a cheap (but still good) way to play Blu Ray discs but will also stream Netflix.

Thank you all

Most blu ray players support streaming. They all play Netflix, along with a varying list of other services depending on brand. No need to get a separate device.

Thats what I was thinking...so instead of a $40 firestick, I can get a $50 blu ray player and it will do the same thing...?

Yup. The interface won't be quite as good or as fast as a dedicated streaming device, but as long as you stick to a decent brand it will get the job done fine. I have a Sony and like it, but couldn't tell you much of the specifics of the current gen. Just make sure to check the list of compatible services before you buy.
