Hello,
I am buying an expensive ticket from United airlines www.united.com.
Is there a fast way to get some cashback or discounted giftcards?
Among credit card have discover only.
Does discover credit card gives any cashback for United?
Thank you!

You could get a card like barclay arrival plus or chase sapphire preferred and get the sign up bonus maybe save $500-600 depending on how much you are spending. EDIT: Just re-read your OP, this prob wouldnt work given time constraints.

Or you could contact some of the mile buyers in this thread:

Tell them your itinerary and see what kind of deal they can get you (they buy the miles off other people and resell them to you essentially).

Repped! I am going to fly in a month, but afraid that the ticket will go much higher by the time I will get approved for credit card. Lots of people buy tickets several months in advance. May be I'm wrong...
I've read recently United policy it says that buying miles is against it and can be seriously penalized.
Is there such thing as United gift card?

Yeah, I'm sure there are united gift cards but I don't know of anyway of getting them at discount.

I don't think there is a super legit way to get a cheap ticket...you would need to take an angle. Those miles brokers buy and sell miles everyday as means of saving people money.

Alternatively, I live in a place where a lot of people fly Alaska Airlines, so I occasionally see Alaska air credits for sale at a discount on craigslist. Maybe you can check your local CL for United air credits???

should I specifically look for 'credit'?
I found smbd selling 'travel certificate' but it can be applied only to 100% united flight and I have a number of different airlines in a flight.

1. There are two ways. Someone may just have enough United miles for your to use. The broker pays them money, they book you a ticket in your name. And its done.

Other times, the broker buys chase ultimate rewards points. The person he's buying from adds you to their account, and they transfer their ultimate rewards to your united miles account, then you book the ticket from your account with the united miles.

2. If it has to be 100% united it might/probably will not work. You could email them and ask them to try a dummy booking with their credit to see if it would apply to your itinerary (essentially they would go all the way through the process of booking the ticket except for the final payment step). If it works, buy it from them...

Go to united and put your info in and check the award travel box, it will tell you how many miles are needed

Above you said you didnt think you could use the credit unless all your flights were on united. I would guess it would work on united code shares and their little commuter airline, but probably not with their partner airlines. You could ask the person selling the credit to see if it applies to your itinerary. Or you could post your itinerary here and we could be more help.

I asked United representative by phone, he said all flights parts must be with United. One cannot pay even a part of flight with travel certificate if it contains partner airlines. The seller also said its written on the certificate.

Don't feel like posting full itinery online. It is fulfilled by United, Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa. Hope that gives enough information to conclude smth. I use United cause thats the only site I could find this flight by now as its pretty complicated. Thank you
