Thread Details

I am looking to pickup a new credit card with a couple of features. I currently have a Citi Forward card that I have had forever. It's been fine but I know there are better cards out there. I Have credit in the Good to High rating, mostly getting dinged for not many "lines of Credit". I don't carry a balance on my cards from month to month either.

I am planning to buy a new laptop and build a new desktop here in the next 2 months and I have seen other people take advantage of Cash Back if you spend a few thousand dollars over the first 3 month type of deals. Ideally I would do something like that. The other thing I am looking for that is secondary is low or no foreign transaction fees. I have a trip planned to Europe this year and would like to have low fees for that too.

Are you open to applying for two credit cards?

I would recommend applying for both the Chase Sapphire Preferred as well as the Chase Freedom Unlimited.

The CSP will net you 50k points w/ 4k spend in 3 months and has the annual fee waived the first year, it also has no foreign transaction fee.

The freedom unlimited offers you 1.5% cashback on everything and will give you $150 (+$25 if you add authorized user) when you spend $500.

You can use those points to transfer out to reward partners to book discounted flights to Europe.

When the CSP fee is due next year you can also have it downgraded to a Chase Freedom which will net you 1% cashback with 5% quarterly rotating categories.

Ideally it would be one card, but I could open two, probably at different times. I doubt I spend enough to keep 3 credit cards and a debit card (I get decent interest on my checking about if I use my debit card x number of times a month). My tickets are already booked so not sure if your idea would work as well.

Points cards are ok but I would prefer to eventually get to cash in this scenario.

I thought abit about a Chase Freedom Unlimited https://www.creditkarma.com/credi...7216129749

$150 cash back on the first $500 in purchase in 3 months, then 1.5% cash back.
Bad thing is it has foreign transaction fees.

Ah if you're tickets are booked it's a moot point then as I don't think anything can be applied retroactively.

I would sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred then. That is quite a bonus with it since it has no foreign transaction fees you'll be good to use it overseas.

When the annual fee posts, you have 30 days to downgrade it to a chase sapphire (regular), freedom, or unlimited. Plus, you'll still be eligible for signup bonuses for those three cards.

Also, you get a cool metal card Stick Out Tongue

Ok so the rewards for the CSP card are below.
"Earn 50,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $625 in travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards(R)"

Is there a place I can go lookup what 50,000 bonus points can get me? Preferably in cash or gift cards that I would use? Not planning any trips that are not already largely paid for or inclusive so not sure I could use up $635 in travel rewards easily, if I hit 4k in spending. I would kind of prefer less

Well chase points are worth a penny if redeemed for cash so that would be $500 if you redeemed as statement credit. I'm not sure if there are discounted gift cards as I have really never looked .

I know you said you aren't interested in any trips but here is some more information if you transfer it to their partners:

http://millionmilesecrets.com/201...-partners/

You also get a 5k bonus when you add an authorized user and make a purchase with that card within the first 3 months so ultimately ends up being 50,000 + 5,000 for $550 statement credit for spending 4k

Ok cool, Thanks I will aim for applying for this one. Seems to be the best deal by far.
