i7- $285, asrock h 97 pro 78$, cooler master 212 evo $25, 8 GB mush kin (slickdeal) $50. 1 TB any less than $50. msi 970 4G $303. windows $110. psu $50 newegg special pick one. $840. those are current full price retail. if I shopped it for a week probably get it done for about $150 less. consider the psu and mobo in the hp are going to be junk

I didn't TD but I don't think this is really a slickdeal unless one really plans on using the mfr warranty

For someone not smart enough to build their own, are there any good desktops around $500 that would scream through my RAW photo processing and other non-gaming tasks? My 6 yo mid-grade PC is just killing me.

dell xps pcs have been on sale a lot. good prices for a similar system to this (minus the graphics cards) have been around low 500s. usually have 12 to 16 gb ram as well. their scratch and dent sales from Cowboom are great too. but yeah, this particular deal is not a very good one. but if you aren't willing to build one, just consider the extra payment as necessary

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (not being sarcastic because your post was very helpful), but cowboom has ceased to exist. Down

many. check your local warehouse (sams club Costco etc). Seen a computer the other day on clearance for 460 with i5-4690 and a gtx960. just have to stay on it. also best buy has some good clearance racks on open boxes, look for items that were tagged clearance ay lt least 1 month and then ask for a manager. same at the wholesalers. picked up a 55" 1080p for 230 the other day.

I don't have the time to stop into stores every week to monitor potential clearance bins :-/ That's why online works much better for me. But I do check clearance when I'm at a store. Knowing so little about computers, I never know if the deal is actually slick or not.

There is a Dell 3847 4th gen I-7 in one of the other threads for $579.00. If you have the time, I would wait for a Dell Outlet deal on an xps 8700 or 8900.

Is this worth the price? http://m.costco.com/Dell-XPS-8900...46377.html

That adds up to $951. And it doesn't include a case.

$857 is a 'meh' price for this system.

However, 15% cash back right now makes it much slicker.

Please, no dEBATES about that.

Just amazon all the parts and add them up. Assume $130ish for case/motherboard.
("i5-4690", "4gb ddr4", "120gb ssd", ect)
