They're not really tablets, they're full computers. So, yes, it looks like a $200 android or W10 tablet, or a $600 iPad, but it comes with W10 Pro, a regular ultrabook i5 processor (or i7/m3 depending), and a digitizer interface.

I have one and use if for CAD work, Photoshop, a Digital Audio Workstation, and light weight Premiere video production. With the MS Dock (and some blood/sweat/tears to set up), mine runs at my desk with two 42", 4k Wasabi Mango monitors in a three-screen configuration.

It's expensive because it's (a) ultrabook-level compute power in a (b) tablet configuration that includes an active digitizer (c) with dock connectivity like a high end business machine (d) in a 1.8 pound package.

If you only need 2 or 3 of those things in that list, you're wasting your money by buying a Surface Pro. There are cheaper devices out there. There are no devices which do all of that in this size package.

I wouldn't pay $1100 for a laptop either... I really don't see the point unless you're a business and the price doesn't matter to you (my company pay $2,500 for lenovo crap pads)

Looks like tax in NY - just go through checkout to see your locale.

Impeccable build quality, remarkable screen, premium components. Hold one in your hands and you'll notice the difference. There are many cheap 2-in-1s out there. This definitely isn't meant to be one of them.

This deal was very slick, thanks a ton. Got a free docking station, plus new customers get another $20 off coupon (got a popup asking for email address and they sent it) and also they have the black keyboard w/fingerprint reader on sale for new customers $16 off. Also got force awakens dvd (will toss in car so kid can watch there!), and 3% CB from a cashback site. Overall good deal. Wife wanted this and it saved me a

Any tips on how I can get a surface pro screen fixed for a reasonable price? Just cracked it Monday. Don't have the confidence to repair it myself.

The $20 off coupon didn't work for me on the Quill checkout. Also they charge sales tax, so not sure this is so slick unless you were going to buy the docking station anyway.
