I had the older version of this devil trashcan. I would be sitting there on the couch with no one around and it would make its jolting opening noise and scare the carp out of me.

But, one good thing it did was trash-train our dog. If our dog tried to get into the trash, it bopped her in the nose. So she stopped caring about the trash.

This looks like the exact same model I bought from eBay. I've only had it for about two months but I'm still on my first set of batteries. It wasn't until I had bought batteries that I noticed at also has an AC adapter plugin (which works for me since my garbage can is next to the island's outlet), so I bought I cheap adapter on eBay to avoid having to buy batteries.

And about the garbage can itself, I really like it. And it also seems really well built, especially for the price.

Goes very well with our home decor. It has a on/off switch f you want to turn off the automatic lid sensor, which comes in handy if you have young kids in the house. The rim for holding the trash bag is a very useful tool. Overall love the product.

Anyone able to compare this to the simple human touchless models?

Anyone know how quickly this thing uses batteries? I'd imagine it might go through them quickly....maybe every six months?

Not sure which one you're referring to, but the garbage can was $38 I think and the adapter was about $2 (but it came from China and took over a month to get here).

I have read reviews where these things go wacky and start opening and closing on their own. It appears the sensor is not very durable.

I have had a few of these types of things go through the battery in a month at times maybe less. How leave an empty pizza box or Amazon box on top of this thing and poof you need a new battery. If you are careful it's fine but trying to get the members of my family to be careful with how they use a trash can is a fool's task.
