Sugestions for laptop with these specs on 6-800 budget?

relegated 2 10 April 15, 2016 at 01:34 PM
I am currently using an old desktop, I would like to move to a laptop with some specific specifications. I don't do any gaming, I don't even use it a lot but I am trying to downsize space and increase portability. I basically just do parent stuff: internet, pictures, documents, very minor stuff just looking for something snappy.

I have been looking around but have not found anything I like yet for the price point I would like to stay in, looking to spend maybe $600-800.

Looking for something that is 15.6" in size, with a 1080p resolution, touchscreen is not required but I would take it I suppose.

Looking for something that has a PCIe slot so I can put a SSD in it along with a slot for a 2.5" drive so I can put something like a faster 2TB drive in it for storage.

Something with an Intel Core i5 or better, 8GB of memory or more. I don't like HP, I don't need a pointing stick, would be nice for the touchpad to have actual buttons, I don't need a 2 in 1.

Wait for a dell outlet sale on the xps 15 9550 (latest version)...
The case i3 model is plenty fast for your use. Base version comes with a 32gig ssd + a standard 2.5 drive.
Its does not have actual buttons on the touch pad. Its built exceptionally well and is almost the size of a 14" laptop since they minimized the bezel. Got mine for 700 (tax included)...

I was looking at the XPS in the outlet this morning, I'll keep an eye out for a coupon, I agree an i3 would be fine for me. The cheapest one they have now is $1000 but it only has a 32GB SSD and 500GB HDD.

Ebay can be a pretty good place to get those outlet machines at sale prices when they are not on sale at dell. Just picked up an XPS 13 9350.

That's a machine I have my eye on, but haven't been able to track prices as closely as I'd like to. Mind if I ask how much you snagged it for?

Dell's XPS laptops are a good choice as are their Latitude models. Lenovo has good options too.

When there's a coupon, dell outlet can have good deals. Some of the business models have a longer warranty. The slot for an ssd is more commonly marketed as M.2 rather than half mini pcie.

On the trackpad, I used to think I wanted actual buttons, my current laptop has that but the overall trackpad is too small as a result. Try some different trackpads and keyboards at best buy to get a sense of what certain ones are like to use. Many today have an entire trackpad that physically clicks when you press it, I think this works well. The level of control in the trackpad software does vary (think gestures).

Thats a used 3 year old machine...no way I would pay that much for it. Battery is likely toast or close to it too.
