This is FYI and not an actual deal.

I just did an system update on my Sprint prepaid Moto E which is on a Freedompop BYOD free plan. The update is presumably from Sprint to "fix roaming issues". After the upgrade the phone can no longer register with Freedompop, and a message says the SIM has been locked. Updating profile/PRL or performing carrier reset does not help. At this time I'm not sure if this is a glitch specific to this phone or it is Sprint deliberately trying to lock out non-FED cleared phones coming up to 4/17, and if that's the case, whether this would also happen to Boost/Virgin prepaid phones or on ringplus network. I would suggest everyone be very cautious about any OTA updates in the coming days.

Thank you for the note! I will have to stop all updates now. I wish updates were from manufacturers not carriers. This is BS!

Does it mean if our R+ Prepaid phone gets OTA update, we are fked? You need to root it to stop OTA updates. Many phones cannot be rooted.
Can we sue Sprint?

this is easy to bypass, activate but do not turn the phone on should be the solution

Can't We set up the phone not to update? It needs to be rooted?

This should become a law, once a person buys a piece of hardware, any unwanted unauthorized software update that changes the characteristics of the phone must be optional with ability to opt out once and forever (not even having to shut a nag screen).

Where are the kinds of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs in Android world??? WTF seriously! If Windows was as FK'D crooked and evil as Android, the whole world would be been a different place today.

Do not turn the phone on? What about just giving the phone away? I just activated phones on Ringplus and did not see any OTA when I checked

Hmm, probably not a firmware version update, but one of those Sprint "network upgrades". Welp, all my android R+ phones are rooted LGs (Volt, Tribute 2, G2). If ppl need to root, google the LG One Click Root Method that's on XDA.

I just swapped a boost moto e between 2 r+ lines using the 3rd phone trick which deactivates and reactivates the phone with no issues

I have the Sprint moto E as well but on RP.

My System version:
25.11.25.surnia_boost.Boost.en.US.sprint It works fine.

How do I keep it from updating to 25.11.26.surnia?
