Well this is tempting and adds to what has already been mind-numbing research Smilie

I was convinced to pull the trigger on the onkyo tx-rz900 if it gos on sale again(fan of the toroidal transformer for audio) until I found out it has no video upscaling - I have the lower end Panasonic 65" that has an excellent pic with 4K input, but the upscaling does not appear all that great(I'm sure there's worse) and hoping a decent avr will help. My set-up is a pretty simple 5-surround with 2 subs and this 4200 is way overkill for my video needs, but it appears I have to step up to something like this to get some decent power.
Also, considering the refurbed Marantz sr6009/7009 given the audio reputation(although appears software is glitchy). Been all over the forums, but if anyone here is aware of a 7.2 avr(a 5.2 would be fine as well but I'm sure they don't exist now) with this kind of quality power and a good upscaler for less, plmk.

I have a marantz 7008 and bought it because it was the cheapest avr I could find with Audyssey MultEQ XT32. I love it. I only run stereo bookshelves, but the EQ and room correction it provides really make it sound fantastic. of course I now have the bug to add more speakers.
I can't speak to its video scaling, since I only have a 43" 4k TV. the 4k is pointless at that resolution, so I'll be returning the TV.
all this said, denon is under the same hat as marantz, but an employee at AV science store told me over the phon to buy marantz for music, denon for theater.
this x4200 series (any xx200) have a new 2016 app that should be less finicky. that said, I have no issues with my 7008 and the app. it isn't the best design like if an actual tech company made it, but then again I spend maybe 40 seconds using the app for every hour that the avr is on. I can't justify spending more to have a better app.

I hope these random points of feedback help you out!

Does anyone have any experience with Discover Price Protection being used to match a Frys promo code deal?

I purchased this receiver from Best Buy within the 90 day window, but because Frys uses a code I am thinking no dice on Price Protection.

Give it a shot by taking screenshot of your shopping cart with the updated price (after applying coupon, click cart again so you don't see the coupon messages). Say that, its a instant discount by Fry's for email subscribers when signed in and added to cart. Worth a try.

This receiver will give you plenty of room to grow if you are ever thinking about running speakers to a separate zone (i.e. outdoor).

Also, Audysee and the Denon App are major pluses.

I would put money on most of the Denon/Marantz models sharing 99% of the same components
One may have an extra input etc...but to my knowledge they are built right along side each other in Malaysia...or I think I actually saw Vietnam the last time I looked at one of the non flagship models place of assembly
In fact, as I understand it, its not a factory owned by D&M...but a third party assembly facility that also does Sherwood and a few other brands

That being said the X4200 should be this price, or less all the time
D&M , IMO, likes to play games with their artificially high MSRP's

That's what I was thinking. The coupon message up top had a [X] in the corner so I closed it. Took a screenshot next to a window with today's date in Google and the date in bottom corner as well. We will see.
