This printer is regularly this cheap....do they gouge the heck out of you on buying toner? It's the only way I could see them making it this cheap on a regular basis.

Has any one found a place that sells refurbished toners for this printer? I really don't like refilling the cartridges myself.

Out of sheer curiosity, I bought one a few months ago. It's pretty nice for the price. Not the best print quality, but it's fantastic for basic home printing. I figured I'd try to refill myself once the toner is tapped out. Hopefully, by then, they're be more options. If not, I'll donate the printer. Worth the price to experiment! Smilie

I agree; the printer is quite decent for the price. Only bad thing I can think of is that it has unsecured wireless printing activated by default which is a huge security risk. Well, at least mine did...

I'm thinking of actually purchasing another printer just for the free 700 page toner cartridge that it comes with.

it's pretty wasteful and not exactly Earth conscious but it is cost effective as replacement toner carts cost $40 [newegg.com]

Can anyone confirm if this printer supports Google Cloud Printing for Android? I want to be able to print directly from my Android phone without the use of the crappy Pantum.apk app.

If it makes you feel better donate the excess printers via craigslist or to a local charity. Wink

They used to do this with inkjet printers...sell the printer for next to nothing and make up the difference on the cartridges...cripple them with chips to prevent refilling etc....well at least we've made progress to laser printers now.

I have an old Minolta 1250W Winprinter I still use for b/w printing..actually has to be plugged up to a computer to work but I used an ancient laptop I have running a light version of linux....the thing is the toner is dirt cheap compared to this and I already have a cart rated at 6000 pages which I may die before I use all of...having a hard time justifying the purchase.

Please check this one out and tell me how you think they compare? This one normally retails from $150 to $200 and is currently "on sale" at BB for $180. I have some Staples coupons I want to use up and was thinking of getting it to re-sell locally to get my money back from the coupons and some profit on top of it. There is also 25% back in rewards if I buy it in-store (I think). I'd hope to get $100 to $120 for it (the Staples sale will be gone by the time I receive it so it will no longer be available for $70). Thanks

How do you think a $30 printer is going to compare to one that regularly sells for hundreds more?

So no one has figured out how to defeat the DRM on the cartridges yet?

I'd go for a brother with TN450 or TN660 cartridges. A lot cheaper to operate.

Well I assume it CAN be beaten to some extent since ebay is full of folks selling toner to refill them....I would imagine though you need to refill them before they get "to low" and the chip marks the cartridge as unusable. There also appear to be different types of cartridges...starter (700 pages), economy (1000 pages) and regular (1600 pages) with price hikes accordingly. It's possible some are easier to refill than others. I'd read the ebay listings and see what they say.

As a linux user I've had more problems with brother printers and combo units mainly because their linux drivers are crap...I finally tossed one and have an HP inkjet I use strictly as a scanner (with adf tray) that prints to my laser printers in front office...color or b/w depending on need.

I use mine for printing 15 or so Ebay shipping labels a week. The quality if fine for what I'm doing. Somehow the unit won't print wirelessly anymore unless I connect to it like I would my own wireless network. Besides that, this is a good set up.

My printer(using for 4 months) heats up and once in a while paper gets stuck. Stops working once in a while, later starts working. I was able to buy toner and refill from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Refill-Pant...B0195JY44Y

Bottom line, cheap printer with few issues, but works.
