I read the specs. For the price they look like a heck of a deal being a pair. I don't need any right now or would give them a shot. Hard to find speakers at this price that are worth buying.

I got the floor standing speakers right after Christmas for about the same price. Really great quality for both the size and price!!

I have the jbl50s. I also have a tecnics turntable and receiver as well as fire stick, ps4, and xb360 hooked up to them. Money well spent. The vinyls come out perfect and the gaming is superb. Dont expect a ton of natural base but if your receiver has an eq and you want more base you are in for a treat. These blow my old kenwood setup out of the water.

I have owned these for about a year and I am a big fan. They look nice and I like the sound they put out more than the comparable Pioneer floor speakers.

I've never heard these, so I can't comment on the quality. That's a ridiculously low price to include shipping. I sold a pair of bookshelf speakers and they cost me almost $50 just in shipping. If you need a cheap pair of speakers this seems like the deal.

asking the important questions

I'd go with the ES80s (refurb) that are up direct from Harmon for $99/each right now.

I have a pair of Loft 50 for my master bedroom, using those go listen to music from time to time. I also have a pair of Loft 40 as my computer speakers. Both sounds great, and in particular I like the engineering of Loft 50, where the bass speakers are on the sides.

Here is my review of JBL Loft 40:

By Kirill Kolyshkin on June 29, 2015

After some listening I can say I am pretty satisfied with JBL Loft 40 as "computer speakers", i.e. speakers I use to listen to (mostly) music while working in my home office. I am pretty picky when it comes for sound, so a pair of plastic speakers from Genius wouldn't do.

I needed a pair bookshelf (i.e. desktop) speakers. I tried using floor standing speakers and found it's not very practical for my particular setup -- they stand behind the table and tweeters are masked by two 24" monitors which definitely affects sound in a bad way. These bookshelves are standing at the edges of the table, next to the monitors, with a clear line of sight (or is it sound?) between the tweeters and my ears.

I was also worried that with such a wide speaker placement the stereo effect will be compromised, but I immediately heard it. In other words, I hear sounds like they come from the center. I don't think all speakers have the ability to create a wide stereo sweet spot, and I am glad JBLs can do it.

Overall, the sound is good. It's not pale but not much colored either. I am not a bass junkie but these gives enough bass to enjoy low notes from a contrabass. I could add a subwoofer, but I don't believe there is a need considering the purpose -- background music for work. I listen to a variety of music, from pop to jazz to classics. With these speakers I tend to like jazz.

Oh, and one final thing -- I got the speakers for $45 directly from JBL, and I am using Topping TP30 USB DAC/amplifier (around $100), connected to a laptop via USB. I think it's important to use an external DAC as otherwise it's noisy. I would buy Topping VX1 for now -- it's essentially a newer version of TP30.

I own a pair, these sound pretty good for the money, especially as a 2.0 setup, but nothing really special. Just good, clean sound.

Yes. You will need a stereo amplifier at least. These speakers accept a high level input - not low level like RCAs (red/white) from your TV might provide.

Alternatively, I would use these as your front channels on a home a/v receiver. Your receiver will make use of the extra power output - especially when listening to music.
