Never could get into FMA although everyone seems to like it. Steins Gate sounds interesting.

It absolutely matters which FMA you're talking about. The original FMA went off on a tangent about halfway through (the comics weren't finished)--and then fell off a cliff at the end. The newer FMA:Brotherhood is closer to the source material and is the FAR better series in my opinion. Brotherhood is one of the few anime I recommend to people who are thinking of taking a look at the genre.

Some not-entirely-irrelevant information: I bought FMA:B set1 in 2012 for $30 (amazon), and set2 in 2013 for $23 (amazon). It seems to go on sale at least once a year. Still a pretty good price.

I hate this. 10 year ago. Most american don't know about anime, manga. Now even kids know.
Many got licensed. It means illegal to get from P2P.
If you like something, you are better keep your mouth shut.

FMA:B is awesome, not for the faint or heart though. Got it for my bro for Christmas last year, I'm thinking about buying it myself now.

i say the older one is better, but its a matter of personal preference. if you want a action shounen that is a good example of its genre, FMA B. If you want a mature senin-ish fantasy/thriller story with a lot of shock value and a stronger emotional impact, the first series. Steins gate is really good but u have to get pass the 1st 3 episodes for it to pick up. Either way u win. El Psy Congroo.

I think it's good to watch both FMAs, the original series draws some stuff out and makes you feel more for the characters. Brotherhood has a faster pacing early on which feels... wrong.

These two series are kind of like Hellsing the TV version, goes off the rails about half way through. Hellsing Ultimate was straight to video and is verbatim the manga, I was reading the Manga at the same time as watching Ultimate... it was identical so I stopped reading the manga.

I just finished steins gate. it is one of the best animes I have seen and I don't even like that genre. full metal alchemist brotherhood is extremely good too.

It starts slowly for the first 3-4 episodes. I almost stopped watching it was so slow.

Then BAM! It gets real good after a pivotal event and stays that way to the end.

If you have any interest in anime, pick up Steins;Gate.

Actually, scratch that. If you have any interest in great storytelling and sci-fi thrillers, pick up Steins;Gate.
