how good of a deal is this? how much better is the sound compared to the Sharkk Boom box I'd be returning?

This is the older version, but the price is pretty good.
The new (not refurb) Charge 2 is $100. The original Charge comes with a storage sleeve. The Charge 2 does not.

I can't comment on the Sharkk Boom box, but I can say (for the money) you will be impressed with the audio quality of the Charge.

I just got it.

Here is a review

The JBL charge 3 has recently been released, which is supposedly larger than 2 and waterproof (JBL Charge 2 was water-resistant, not waterproof).

Charge 3 price new is $150, so $50 seems like a great deal.

Seems like the main benefits of getting Charge 2 or Charge 3 are if you want somethign that is waterproof or splashproof, and in the case of charge 3, it might be louder and slightly more better sounding with a flat response curve.

purchased this charge almost 2 years ago. love it. really produces great sound. for $50, I'm thinking of getting another one just in case. Btw, these are excellent at charging your phone as well. 3+ full phone charges from 1 JBL charge.

Buddy of mine bought this a few years ago. It sounds great, and he takes it to get togethers, etc.

How does this JBL compared to the Anker SoundCore or DKnight Magicbox 2. I am on the market for a low cost portable speaker. Thanks

Looking for a speaker to connect to benq ht1075 projector which has 10w speaker already. Does it make sense to buy this? This also shows 2 *5W speakers.

I hope they put in new battery on their refurbished speakers.

Yeah I'm very worried about this, because an old battery for something like this device would make the device essentially useless.

yup. why don't they make BT speakers with replaceble battery? so we won't have to toss out a working speaker.

Well, this is just my guess, but as Apple has shown with iPhones, it helps with design and how well everything is put together when you have a device that's pretty much sealed.
Also they don't want to sell you something that will last a lifetime. Obviously they want to sell you new speakers every few years.

Looks like this has been $80 new. $50 for a refurb with unknowns about battery longevity doesn't seem like much of an SD.

Edit: $80 was actually for the Charge 2, which makes this deal even less attractive.
