eBay seller asavings (99% positive feedback) has the latest ecobee 3 wifi thermostat for $189.99 and free standard shipping.

I know similar deals have been posted before, but those were different sellers who no longer have it for that price.

Anyone care to comment on this vs. the nest? I like that It has a sensor but do like the nest in that it's supported by Google a bit more than this one being supported by Apple, or did that change? Anyone seen a direct change in energy cost after upgrading to this particular thermostat?

I got one from a similar deal. Very happy with it. Check your utility for possible rebates for smart or programmable thermostats. Between my gas and electrical utilities, I got about $120 back.

I have the old Ecobee Smart Si (which is essentially the same in terms of function except w/o prox sensors), and it saves me a ton of money on AC/Heat because I set it to essentially be off all day while I'm at work.

Also works w/ Amazon Echo, which is super nice.

Buy Ecobee nest has just one sensor. Ecobee take advantage of multiple sensors which works well at night.

i like it. i like that i can throw the sensor in the guest room and ask "what do you like your room at?" and just set it so their room is that temp. it's good for pregnant friends or elderly people who are more sensitive to hot/cold. i also have a sensor in my nursery to make sure that it's the right temperature during naps/sleep. other than that, i would assume its like the nest. it doesn't "learn" though, you have to program everything it does.

i don't have the homekit one though. i have to actually walk over to the thermostat to change the temperature like a luddite. i also like that it has the outside temperature on the screen. i just have to walk by the thermostat on my way to getting changed in the morning to see whats happening outside.

Really no reason to even think about the Nest unless you have no iOS devices in your house. Homekit is way ahead than anything the Nest can do.

If you have no iOS devices and won't buy any anytime soon, they are pretty equivalent.

Nest sunsetting support for devices is troubling:

Does Ecobee provide warranty even if we buy from ebay?
