Any way to buy ANY phone that works on RingPlus anymore

gonepostl 4,107 338 April 20, 2016 at 07:43 PM
This FED thing should be illegal. From what I understand you can't even buy an unlocked phone and use it on Ringplus. I have no desire to pay crappy Sprint for 12 months of service so I can use my phone on another provider. Can I buy ANY phone and have it work with Ringplus anymore? This is the definition of a monopoly.

I don't use ringplus, but I thought about trying it a few times...

From what I read I thought any prepaid that's been used 12 months or any post paid with a clear esn should work... idk. A used phone from swappa is a good option.
There are some more expensive phones you can buy outright that should work: iPhone 6/6s/6s+/SE, Nexus 6, 5x, 6p. Be careful, some models of the 5x are international and don't have cdma support.

well, R+ uses Sprint network, and even with worse quality

clean used S network phones will work, just check in advance before purchase
iphone 6 and above always work

Ya, I know Sprint network is terrible, but I'll take it for free. Seriously!? There's nothing I can do but buy a $600 phone!? M-o-n-o-p-o-l-y

It's not a monopoly. You just can't use ~$30-80 pre-paid phones anymore, those phones are subsidized (subsidy paid by using a pre paid service that's more expensive than the competition) that's why they cost less. Most carriers do this.

Used Galaxy S5 $140
Used LG G4 $199

New Nexus 5X $349, sometimes on sale for less but not always a sprint compatible version.

Don't get LG G4. It has screen issue. If you buy used phone, you have no warranty.

You're totally off on your assumptions.

iphone SE is $399
Google Nexus 5X and Google Nexus 6P are all way lower than $600.
Any other Sprint phone that is not pre-paid and that you have fully paid off would work too.
There's tons of cheap phones that work on Sprint and R+. Go get a flip phone if you're that cheap.

I think you need to do some more reading and less assuming.

Can you buy a used phone via swappa or ebay that has already been activated on Ringplus prior to the April 17, 2016 rule enforcing?

Seems like there's a market for used phones.

After ordering a deal immediately delete your deal alert. You got your item; you don't want it shipped with a side of remorse.

It's 6p not 5, but yes they should work. Many phones sold on swappa should work too as well as recent iPhones that are off contract.

Ring Plus also sells a number of phones, mostly refurbished:

The HTC Desire 626s refurb for $119 is a decent option. Many of the other phones are pretty old or way overpriced.

I don't really understand why you seem so angry at the people who are simply answering your question:

The answer to your question is a simple yes, but they cost more.

The simple reality is cheap pre-paid smartphones that may go on sale for $30 cost more than that to manufacture. The sale price is subsidized by the carrier who is counting on some of the revenue from using it with their more expensive prepaid cell service to pay for what's left the device cost. Phones like the Nexus 5x, 6p, iPhone 6/6s/6s+/SE can be used on any US carrier to you're not stuck with sprint or ringplus. These more expensive phones are WAY better, once you've used a better phone it's pretty hard to switch to a cheap crappy one.

The cheapskate option is to buy a crappy used phone, just make sure it has a replaceable battery!

You are ranting about a monopoly when the service IS FREE and there are lots of alternatives. You are FREE to go to ANY other of the MANY cell providers. They can do whatever the hell they want. They owe YOU nothing. Frankly your attitude is disgusting.
