Hmm. I was debating to get a new one for my old build. i5-2500k and friend gave me his i7-2600k. I didnt like the idea of putting the same old run down cooler back on top of it.

What's the difference between 212 Evo and 212 Plus?

EDIT: 212 Evo is lighter and has a different fan. Noisier. Theoretically better than Plus, but some users stated they are no different in world performance.

I know this is common advice and most will already know it, but make sure this won't cover up your RAM slots if space is tight on your motherboard. The one I'm currently using has a layout where the first slot is basically inaccessible while I'm using this cooler, and if I had one of the sticks with the tall heat sinks, it wouldn't fit at all. There's no denying that this cools well, though.

I have fairly tall GSKills in my i5-2500k build and used this heatsink fine. The fans clip on, so I just pushed the fan up a little bit.

If you already have it, don't waste your money buying another. Reuse it. Just take some can air to dust it off and re-apply new thermal paste. If the CPU fan is noisy, just reapply the fan bearing with a single drop of lubricant/oil.

Yea, nothing more wasteful than not reusing a hunk of metal lol

The biggest difference is that the Evo supposedly absorbs heat better because it lacks the grooves between the heat pipes on the bottom. Google image search and you'll see what I mean. I own both of these and both work fine. Each of my rigs has a different CPU and case so can't really do any side by side comparisons.

Good question. I just bought one of these with $5 rebate, as well, but haven't submitted rebate yet. Wouldn't hurt to try contacting NewEgg CS, and asking nicely. They're very good, and have always gone the extra mile for me. If you're a Premier member, call the Premier member CS number. Whatever the outcome, say thank you! I am going to contact Premier CS tomorrow, and ask if I can get the $10 rebate. If not, oh well!
Good luck to you!

I'm sure at this point most of you have seen or heard of the Hyper 21 from Cooler Master. This was one of the few, at the time, to offer a gap in the middle of the fin sets. I was able to test that cooler myself, but it was prior to my time with TweakTown, but I still remember what the 212 had to offer. To me the Hyper 212 was a good design, and very efficient for the lack of total surface area with all the missing middle bits of the fins. Yet this cooler has what it takes to keep temperatures at bay.

EDIT:
If you bought the same cooler that I did, on the fourth, nevermind. The one I bought is a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, not this one. So, a price match won't happen, nor will my asking for a $10 rebate in place of a $5. Besides, the rules on price matching state must be within 14 calendar days to qualify for price matching. Sorry. Frown
