imho: deal alerts should be limited to OP+Wiki

PetSpy 2,075 918 April 21, 2016 at 03:09 AM
I have this deal alert:
amazon s&s
and this thread alerted me;
https://slickdeals.net/f/8683887-2-pack-42oz-m-m-s-milk-chocolate-and-peanut-candy-mix-party-size-6-27-free-shipping-w-prime
it's a non S&S item, yet because "amazon s&s" was written 8 posts down
i got alerted.

this is silly... Embarrassment

Hi, Deal Alerts are only limited to the OP. Not sure why you got that alert.
Is your exact alert Amazon S&S ?

My guess is....
There was an edit done to OP after the Deal Alert was generated, so it's possible the original OP had S&S?

I would have also thought maybe a tag or other word or words in OP triggered it, but I am fairly confident PetSpy knows it was sent as an alert on "amazon S&S".

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case and it is much more likely the OP's problem was the result of how the ampersand and other special characters are treated in regards to the DA system. (Disclaimer: Obviously I'm not a dev so my knowledge of how the system works is exclusively the result of testing and observation as an end user.) I'm still not completely clear on what exactly the expected behavior is when including the ampersand in a DA keyword string in various forms. You can see some of my recent comments on it here in regards to a similar situation.

The second issue likely at play here is the 's at the end of M&M's. The apostrophe is treated as a space by the DA system. Again, the ampersand is a bit of an unknown but I believe the thread in question triggered the DA due to the contents including an ampersand and (what appears to the DA system) as an s.
