Great shoe and deal, but no widths available is a definite deal breaker. The Carlyle uses a narrow last. If you have a wide foot, you should also go up a width from other AE shoes that use a wider last, like the Park Avenue.

no Width options = no deal. Need EEE for all their shoes because of the narrow narrow lasts they use.

I called bloomingdales and they talked to Allen Edmonds, then I talked to Allen Edmonds all to figure out the size.

I was told ONLY D width is on sale.

Lucky me! I ordered a Pair in walnut for $186 shipped. Good deal. I would have taken the width gamble anyways because of free returns.

Some AE shoes are so difficult to fit. Even with the 5 last, fit isn't consistent. In my experience, McTavish, Neumok and 5th AVE are totally different fit. Neumok fit my narrow heel find. McTavish was 1/2 down, one width wider. 5th Ave I couldn't fit, but I think 1/2 smaller and (maybe) on width wider was closest. I wish I knew how to size this one. I'm thinking 1/2 smaller, but not sure about the width. How is Bloomindale's return policy? That's the great thing about AE. Returns and customer service are great!!

I was looking at this to see about my size availability. Shows size 12, but doesn't list the widths. Am I missing something?

Serious question... What makes a shoe worth $200-300. Is it longevity, comfort, or something else?

I like their domestic manufacturing and it looks like quality materials but I'm trying to rationalize the purchase from a functional perspective.

Rationalize from a TCO perspective. If you take care of a shoe of this quality, it will take care of you. I didn't know what was what and I have 3 pairs of AEs I am very happy with 5 years in with heavy wear.

You are paying for quality, materials, U.S. manufacturing and brand. You would likely go through at least 2 pairs of "inferior" shoes in the time you would own one pair of these.

Leather molds to your foot. I can literally walk 5 miles in mine and not feel a thing.

The best deals are on seconds from the factory directly that sometimes go as low as $125 (but not for this model) and you retain the factory warranty. For many, shoes this nice aren't necessary, but I've been happy with the purchases. You do have to maintain them and they are no good in the rain.
