This is a analog High Definition System. If you wish for a POE System then you would want to buy this item at Newegg.com

if you really need 8 cameras i guess its ok...but i'd rather have the 6 camera POE system with a 2 TB hard drive instead for $100 more. this is a good price on a 8 camera analog system. hard drive is a bit small though

OP, can you price match this to Sam's club and then get $150 off??? Sam's club sells this for $449. That would be super slick

POE is Power Over Ethernet. In addition to using ethernet cables for transmitting power to the cameras - it allows the cameras to send a clean digital signal to the DVR for recording. Wiring is easier because it uses Ethernet cables which are easy to cut to any length and can be much more conveniently found in spools of 1000ft.

The analog cables that come with these cameras are semi-proprietary analog (siamese) cables which are essentially like the yellow video wire that you find in Red/White/Yellow RCA cables. But they use BNC connectors on the DVR side and RCA connector on the camera side. They come with the camera system in lengths of 60ft typically and using analog you have a maximum run distance of about 120 ft before signal degradation.

Digital is better than Analog and offers more options with recording, monitoring, and networking within your surveillance environment.

What would you recommend as a good system for a retail business for outside/inside with a sub $500 budget? Small family Business just looking to be more secure. We were thinking a few cameras outside and in, with night vision, eve setup etc. like the use of POE. THANKS.

Same, but don't discount the higher end systems.
