It isn't even a comparison. Pop it with coconut oil and Flavacol and like fatbaby said, you'll NEVER go back! And the texture is so much better. Crisp and airy versus dense and smashy(is that a word?)

My recipe:

1/2 cup popcorn kernels
2 Tbs. coconut oil
1 tsp. Flavacol

Combine everything at once, cook over medium-high heat until popping stops stirring constantly. Enjoy! No salt or butter needed afterward.

Excuse me.. Going to make some popcorn now.
Once you buy this, you will never touch microwave popcorn again. Period.

We love our whirly pop and this is a pretty good price. Only found it cheaper at Cracker Barrel during their employee friends and family sale.

How does the popcorn flavor coming from this compare to the air poppers you plug in?

This one has slightly better reviews overall: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SU35/

It is a good price considering that it is steel.

I'd say go for air popper. Used both and honestly air popper is awesome. No risk of burning any and you can start it and leave it no need to attend to it. You can't flavor it before popping but I prefer to do it after anyway. Similar price for presto air popper on Amazon with rave reviews.

use peanut oil and butter...get some popcorn salt, they sell in large container at Sam's club and other places. add teaspoon of popcorn salt to 3/4 of kernels, pour in once butter melts..cook and enjoy. wife ads white cheddar salt to hers

Amen....assuming you use the right ingredients. I recommend the ready to make kits from Great Northern available on ebay for around $1/each shipped. They come with just the right amount of popcorn, coconut popping oil, and butter flavored salt.

If done right, it tastes JUST like movie theater popcorn Smilie

Again, if you just use regular popcorn butter and salt the difference is marginal, but use high grade corn, coconut oil, and the right flavored butter flavored popcorn salt and as the above poster mentioned...you will NEVER go back to bagged. In a blind taste test you'd be hard pressed to differentiate it from movie theater/ball game popcorn.

Another Amazon automatic price match to the sale at Hayneedle.com, where there is a Amex Sync offer for $30 statement credit for total combined purchase of $150+.

Great Northern Popcorn 6251 Original Stainless Stove Top [hayneedle.com] $18.00

Another of the several price matched products posted on SD was the Great Northern Popcorn Lincoln 8oz Antique Bar Style Popcorn Machine SD Frontpage deal at $119.

Edit: The Acurite Barometer that is now FP is another Hayneedle sale price match.

You can find all the Great Northern Popcorn sale deals on Hayneedle here [hayneedle.com]. Some others may be price matched by Amazon.
Not all of them are great deals though, so compare pricing.

I actually own two of these. This is a awesome price. I use one for popping popcorn and the other one is for roasting coffee. Have had them for almost 3 years and not one single issue. I love the fact that it stainless steel and is very durable. you never want to cook in aluminum at high heat. the gears on the steering mechanism is metal and will last a long time compared to some of the cheaper ones which actually use a plastic gear
