Many forget at one time Sears was number one. KMart not far behind.
Sears is stuck with many stores in the rust belt.
Remember Montgomery Wards?
Circuit City?
CompUsa?
Others?
Little WalMart in NW Arkansas blew them out of the water

good luck to all that lost jobs

I continue to be surprised everytime I walk into my local sears and kmarts. No matter the time or day, it's nearly empty. This has been the case for decades. Yet they continue to stay open here.

A lot of times cost to go out of business is more than staying open, take airlines for example they run losses year after year yet if they close down they incur billions in closing cost, I would suspect the same would be the case with large B&M joints. When Sears near me closed down a few years ago the inventory was liquidated at ridiculous prices, it was a riot with items being cleared at 90% off and I was surprised with the huge inventory each store hoarded. I feel sorry for the folks who will loose their jobs though, best of luck to all impacted.

Noooooo, my little Kmart in Lodi is closing. My brother lives out that way and I would get him to pick up deals there because they usually aren't available near my location. I've gotten some great deals from that location, ugh.

My god Louisville KY got decimated. 4 out of the 5 stores are closing. The 1 staying open is way out of the way for probably 90% of the area.

I feel like the only thing they are useful for is their appliances and lawn care/ snowblower and perhaps tools if they make them in the USA. They should find a way to sell their stores and just open a small store with those appliances for sale. The sears by me stays open with 4 people in it at a time and a guy following me and asking if I want to buy an appliance.

Glad to see the two Sears stores within a reasonable distance of me aren't closing. Sears really does have the best online pickup service in the business. It's amazing, though, because both their in-store and online shopping experience are butt.

Has anyone else noticed the SYW coupons and surprise cash offers to be getting way worse within the last 6 months or so? All they ever send me nowadays is $5 off $100.

Fact of the matter is they can't pay the bills (or at least *look like* they're paying the bills) if people are buying merchandise with funny money.

I have fond memories of going to Kmart as a kid. It's really kind of sad since they're really the last of those stores that thrived before the rise of the Targets and Walmarts. Walked in to one on the other side of town I had never been to and it was so trippy because it was clean and neat and looked like I had stepped in to my childhood memories.

I'll also miss getting hundreds of dollars of free stuff from them.

They are trying to do something similar. Last year when the sears in my city left they had the tv news and newspapers asking any locals if they would want to open a sears "outlet" store. I forget the actually name they used but it would be just lawn care and appliance and tools. I think it was a kinda franchise type deal. No businessmen in my area took them up on it. Its a shame cause when your local sears leaves you realize there is no place to do returns anymore or craftsmen tool warranty exchanges. Etc. it makes you think twice of buying craftsmen anything now.
