great deal if you don't need 8 threads

i'd skip their combo discount since most of their enthusiast grade boards are 20 bucks more than newegg + newegg has a better selection + many open box z170 boards at $50+ off

They did during my last purchase. It was an AMD combo, and with the bundle and open-box discount, the total for the Mobo was $6.96. This was even honored while there was a $15 manufacturer's rebate promotion running.

Great price!

Alternatively, if you find yourself still on the fence.. the i3 6100 and 6300 are dual core with hyper threading and the 6100 starts out at $109. http://www.microcenter.com/produc..._Processor

Just a note with a slight bump in voltage (like between 1.25 and 1.275 V - these processors can overclock at least to 4.4 GHz without doing anything else. Just get a good cooler. Here's some of my notes on the current system I'm running for a gaming rig.

I bought this same processor a couple of months ago when it was the same price on a weekend promo. The bundle price back then was $20 off and I was able to get the bundle with a discount on openbox boards. I ended up getting the Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 5 for $65. I had doubts Gigabyte would be that good but the board has been impressive. The overclocking is quite good. I was able to get 4.60 GHz on a 1.42 V. It can only do 4.3 GHz overclock on a low voltage of 1.275 V. Stable on Prime 95. Just using the Hyper EVO 212 cooler that I've had for 5+ years to keep things cool.

For gaming the extra boot helps a bit, not that much. The only concern is boosting up the voltage past 1.4V will get you an average 38-40 C temp on idle while at 1.275 V is only 30-32 C at idle.

Thanks for this info. I got a non-K processor that I may overclock but will use a Corsair H50 cooler. Same motherboard, but wow! you got a heavy discount off yours when I paid $150 for mine!

At the Houston, TX store they included the $30 as the price of the motherboard so it ended up being cheaper than Newegg. For example, my motherboard was $149.99 at microcenter and $119.99 with the $30 discount. Newegg had the mobo for $134. I called and asked MC if they would price match but they said their price was cheaper ($119.99). I guess it depends on who you ask!

@CharlieC9067- No, Microcenter doesn't ship cpu's as far as I know. If you don't have a MC store nearby, try going to Staples or Fry's Electronic and ask them to price-match. Good luck.

Nice deal.
