Saw this from another source, good for beginners.

I lose my SONY BluRay player remote and a new one costs at the least $20. This seemed to be a better solution for that. Bought one to see what the fuss is all about.

Logitech Harmony 350 from Amazon [amazon.com]
  • Replaces 8 other remotes: Control your TV, cable/satellite box, DVR, Blu-ray player and more with one easy to use remote control
  • Watch TV button: One button press turns on your TV and cable/satellite box with just the right settings
  • Programmable Favorites: Personalize Harmony with one-touch buttons that let you quickly jump to any of your 5 channel Favorites
  • World's most compatible: Works with 225,000+ devices and 5,000+ brands, including new devices added regularly to Harmony's online database
  • Simple guided online setup: Connect the remote to your Internet-connected computer to quickly download commands for all your devices

FREE SHIPPING with PRIME or qualifying orders over $35.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This remote is not up to the normal Harmony high standard. It is inferior to the other models in functionality. http://arstechnica.com/civis/view...?t=1263453

All I have to say is harmony remotes rock...been using them for 10 years and love not having to have 5 remotes laying all over.

Of course, they do take a bit of the geeky programmer mentality to iteratively fine tune and fully replace those 5 remotes...

I have both a 350 (my 2nd after the first died) and a 650. Both work well but the 650 is definitely better option.

That said, good price overall so TU on this one.

Is there any way to program one of these without having the original remote to my Onkyo receiver?

I have a 300i and you run the harmony software in a web browser then select your device from a list...it then downloads the info to the remote via usb.....assuming this is the same so you shouldn't have to have the remote.

As mentioned - it pulls from a database of 225000+ devices. So no programming required, just update and use I guess.

I bought one of these 2 years ago from Radioshack for about $13. Worth every penny!

One has to create an online harmony account for these and then simply enter your receiver's model number and it will automatically program it.

You can also use the software to assign commands to buttons when you have multiple devices programmed. For example, the volume on mine is set to control the soundbar rather than the TV (which has speakers turned off). You can also program the "Watch TV" button to toggle power for multiple devices -- though if you start turning them off and off individually they'll get out of sync with each other. My in-laws have a habit of doing that.

Harmony remotes work on the basis of "activities". For example, watch TV is one activity and watch DVD is a different activity.

The 350 only supports a single activity, which is fine for my bedroom where I only watch stuff on a Roku. If you need more than 1 activity, definitely spring for the 650.

Edit: also both 350 and 650 are infrared (line of sight) only. If you have equipment that needs RF you'll need to get the Smart Control or ultimate, or any model with the smart hub.

Unless you need the hub, this remote should work as well as any of the far more expensive Harmony remotes. I rarely need the screen.

If their equipment has dedicated on/off buttons rather than just a power toggle button, you won't run into any problems if you set it up correctly.

What are the uses for the screen anyway?
