Sign Off (Caught Dead in Wyoming, Book 1)

FREE (was $4.99) 205 reviews/rated 4+

"TV journalist Elizabeth "E.M." Danniher will tell you she committed two sins -- she didn't stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive -- her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the "Helping Out!" reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a refund for a defective toaster.

Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming -- the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile -- her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?

Soon she's in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who sees her as a handy rung on his career ladder. And there's the matter of a deputy sheriff--missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who's set on proving her father's innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas David Burrell makes investigating easy.

But Elizabeth won't fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

Don't miss any of the "Caught Dead in Wyoming" series by USA Today bestselling author Patricia Mclinn
Murder, Mysteries, Humor, a Hint of Romance"

Gone The Next (Roy Ballard Mysteries Book 1)
Rated 4+ / 194+ reviews

FREE (was $4.99)
Amazon Link [amazon.com]

"Edgar Award finalist Ben Rehder's novels have made best-of-the-year lists in Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, and Field & Stream.

GONE THE NEXT is the first novel in the Roy Ballard mystery series.

About GONE THE NEXT:
Meet Roy Ballard, freelance videographer with a knack for catching insurance cheats. He's working a routine case, complete with hours of tedious surveillance, when he sees something that shakes him to the core. There, with the subject, is a little blond girl wearing a pink top and denim shorts--the same outfit worn by Tracy Turner, a six-year-old abducted the day before. When the police are skeptical of Ballard's report--and with his history, who can blame them?--it's the beginning of the most important case of his life.

REVIEWS FOR BEN REHDER'S NOVELS:

"Murderously funny."
--Chicago Tribune

"Another of Rehder's relentlessly twisted tales. Outrageous fun."
--Kirkus Reviews "

Talking to the Dead (Fiona Griffiths Mystery Series Book 1)

FREE (was .99) but the Audible is $7.99, so that might be too much for many. But it gets some great reviews so I wanted to point it out. 4+ stars / 255+ reviews

Amazon Link [amazon.com]

"A young prostitute lies dead in a Cardiff squat. Her six-year-old lies dead beside her. It looks like an ordinary murder scene . . . except that a millionaire's platinum bank card lies among the debris. How did it come to be there? And is there more to this case than meets the eye?

Investigating the case is rookie Detective Constable Fiona Griffiths - a new recruit with a repuation for being deadly smart, more than ordinarily committed . . . and unsettlingly odd. As she starts to follow up the clue left by that platinum bank card, she finds the disturbing hints that suggest a truly appalling crime has been committed - and release the demons of her own dark past.

Praise for the Fiona Griffiths mystery series

Talking To The Dead was the smash-hit launch that introduced British detective, Fiona Griffiths - the most compelling female protagonist in contemporary crime fiction / mystery.

"Gritty, compelling . . . a procedural unlike any other you are likely to read this year."--USA Today "

Wow, I can't believe all the "it's a trap!" comments.
First, it's free.
Second, you might really enjoy it.
Third, you might actually pay real money (gasp!) for the additional books in the series, thus enabling the author and content delivery systems (Amazon, Kindle) to continue generating and delivering new content. What a concept!

always "book 1" .... of who knows how many.
doesn't anything ever have an ending these days?

tv shows always get cancelled without an ending, books are being written with a perpetual story that does not have an end and everything is a subscription based with no end in sight.

It's essentially a trap, low entrance fee into a long subscription.

Just a reminder to check the following link: Top 100 Free Amazon Kindle Books [amazon.com].

This page has a lot of books that are temporarily free. They do this so that the author gets some exposure, reviews, etc. Generally you will see a ton of romance novels, but there will be a historical or kids or fantasy or detective, etc book for free occasionally as well. I try to check the page once a day or so as things constantly change.

Be careful on this page because sometimes the books will go back to their regular price and haven't been removed yet. You will be able to tell because it will show the price and it happens very rarely.

Thanks OP!

You know what they say: "The first one is free"!

Some of my favorite authors post their first book for free or 99 cents. They've got 3-10 more books in the series, that they hope you'll buy and then try some of their other books. It's cheap (it costs them nothing if you don't read it) and it's free advertising (sort of) as we talk about it here and when people who have read it send links to friends...

When it's an author I like for free (or 99 cents), I often post to FB to share with friends...

Aside from all the nitpicking, are the stories any good?
