Groupon has a Refurb Sony VAIO 13.3 laptop with the below specs for $399.99 with free shipping, free return (within 14 days I believe) and 90 day warranty from a third party. I am not sure what the quality of Groupon refurbs is, but I thought the price was not too bad for this VAIO.

I'd say $250 at most. Sony's pc division is gone so if parts were needed to make a repair.. You're SOL.

Not really. The division is not "gone". It was sold. Still running. Much like how IBM sold it's PC business to Lenovo. Just like you can still get a nub for your trackpoint, you can still get VAIO parts.

Junk TN low res LCD monitor
DVD
mixed USB 2.0/3.0 ports
and
no DP/miniDP
no Sd card reader
no SSD

looks like some 2006-2014 hardware, scrapped and mixed together.

$150 tops, not worth it.

sony should do just fine. hunt for a ssd to replace that hard drive.... i would go with either Samsung or Intel. Either will last a long time.

for school, everyday stuff, yes. Gaming, no
