Pros : Good price for the size.

Bad : Seagate

Other : obviously shucking the drive out of the caddy voids the warranty, which is the first thing I would do because I want internal drives at this price. But a Seagate without a warranty? I might as well light my money on fire.

Horrendous reviews on Newegg and 4.5 stars all over on Amazon, not sure if I trust Amazon reviews anymore.

I am so tempted to buy another one and get it on raid 0. But reading these reviews and seagate reputation, probably should wait for a better price on a nas drive. If only samsung still make hard drives, got one from an external drive (LaCie) still going strong since 2008.

I bought 8 of these at staples a few weeks ago and shucked them for my NAS they have been performing very well thus far. It was during the 25 off coupon deal so I snagged them for a little less than this price.

8x 5 TB Seagate HDD ----------------------- $720
Intel Xeon E3-1246v3 ------------------------ $236
4x 8 GB Crucial DDR3 ECC UDIMM ---- $196
ASRock C226M WS Motherboard ------- $110
Dell Perc H310 HBA -------------------------- $50
NZXT Source 210 Computer Case ------- $30
2x 16 GB Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB -------- $10
Various Cables --------------------------------- $10
700W Thermaltake PSU -------------------- FAR
3x 120mm brushless case fans ----------- FAR

Total ----------------------------------------------- $1362
(Not counting cashback sites and gift card deals)

I am using a FreeNAS as the OS setup with RAID Z2 and I can obtain sustained LAN transfers of 112 MB/s (yes that is a capital “B”)
