I did that with the 4TB Mybook I bought around Christmas. The drive was a WD blue. I did change the head parkings on the drive before I took it out of the enclosure.

Great price for this drive. There is also a 5TB Seagate on sale for $110 @ eBay via Newegg

Weird, Amazon skips the 5tb model in their listing. That's slightly worrying.

Hmm I thought WD had started modifying the drives with a soldered (SATA/USB) board?

How can we be sure that this one isn't like that, do you know?
I want to use this as an internal drive.

Last time this was posted people reported it having a WD Blue [newegg.com] inside. Excellent deal.

This can be used internally if nothing has changed in the past few months.

I had not read that, the last one I got was not, nor did anyone mention that...

Is there more information on this, and what to look out for?

As increasingly these have been the drives to get for price to capacity.

Always been a 7200 specifically internal, but the prices are so high in comparison, it makes more sense to buy these, and knock on wood not had any failures at all on any internal units stripped out and repurposed.

They all are used to just stream content, so far so good.

I'm sure it would be the same as the 4Tb which was just a screw or two and pull the HD away from the internal connector. The model of mine was WD40EZRZ. So this would possibly be the WD50EZRZ.

Why is Newegg stating the Blue HD is 5400rpm? Is the OP a 7200rpm drive inside?

Should be the WD50EZRZ (5400rpm). At this storage density and with the number of platters in the drive 5400rpm is by no means slow.
