I don't think this is the cheapest it has ever been, but it is the cheapest I seen in awhile. Would like to hear alternative products if anyone has experience.

I've seen this family filter on sale occasionally while shopping for camping gear and the next lowest price I've ever seen was $49.99. I searched for about 15 minutes and was not able to find any mention of it selling for less. CCC also shows this as "Best Price". Good deal, bought two. TU.

So it works for 3 yrs. then you replace cartridge and reuse, or just throw it away?

Is it better than those refrigerator PUR filters? I've been thinking of buying a water filter for my house (if it's better than the PUR refrigerator ones ) and am wondering if this is the best option.

From the question answer section of the product:

Q-Is there a shelf life for this if it's unused?

A-On the next packaging run, the shelf life comment will be removed. A short shelf life was stated on original packaging as the product was designed for the high temperatures and stress of the African environment. Stored in our homes here in the USA, there's nothing to cause the product to degrade or expire. Direct and constant sunlight will cause any plastic to eventually degrade, which is why the lifespan statement was developed. If you use it for camping and periodically use and store it, it's a good idea to flush it with tap water and allow it to dry before storing.

Thanks OP, in for one. I have the smaller personal LifeStraw and this is a good value in comparison. That one is $15 and purifies "up to 1,000 liters". So with this family one, we pay 3x the price, but get 18x the purifying capabilities.

No. This is intended as an emergency source of clean water. Camping, disaster preparedness etc. it would be way simpler to get a faucet filter for everyday home use.

OMG this is perfect timing... Because I wasn't in the market to buy one of these and in fact already have a much better water filter. So I don't know why I'm planning to buy this anyway, which is good because otherwise I might have paid full price for it.
