Good deal, but I can't tell if they charge tax or not... as it doesn't show up before the Place Order button.

Great deal with the Tap. In for one!

IS the main benefit of the tap simply a way to turn off all of the lights using a physical, but still leave the ability to turn them on from the app?

Yes, it has 4 physical buttons to turn on/off lights, while you can still do that in the app. They're 4 because you can set "scenes" in the Philips app where you customize a scene with a color and brightness. How I use mine is to set a scene for bright, blue-ish light to help me feel awake during the day, then after 10pm, I use a scene that has a yellow-ish dim light to signal to my body that it's bedtime.

Darn I wish there was a way around the shipping because this is a good deal (albeit the old version of the bulbs, which isn't a huge deal).

If someone finds a code let me know, thanks!

edit: nevermind, no tax, so $135 shipped isn't bad. My girlfriend will appreciate the tap buttons, as she is annoyed with Alexa not understanding her. Smilie

$145.87 in CA which includes about $11 of tax. At this point is it better just to go for gen 2 tax and shipping free from somewhere?

Purchased 2 sets (2 starter, 2 tap), and ended up with free shipping. Also, no tax. $249.90 shipped.

edit: It seems free shipping starts ~$245+ regardless of selection.

I just did this too. Thought about selling my gen 1 hub on ebay but it looks like they fetch about $20 which after fees and shipping basically means it's worthless.

I regularly get the gen 2 bulbs from Sears in the forties after tax, so that's a point of comparison I guess.

However, if you want the tap, I'd say go for this deal. I'm finding myself wanting a switch a lot. Siri is a freakin' idiot.

Just got mine today. Can't believe it arrived in less than 24 hours to SFO. Gotta say that it's a pretty nice system. Much better and more responsive than my Z-wave lights.
One shortcoming I found is natively the app doesn't have sunset programmability. i.e. at random times about 30 minutes before sunset, turn on the lights. But it looks like there is a lot of third party apps that can handle that.
I imagine there are apps that can set the color differently if it's raining vs sunny? Maybe slowly increase the lumens from dusk to dark? Also, read that using the light switch to turn on/off hue light bulbs can drastically shorten their life.
People have resorted to using these: http://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Sw...IXF4O8E9YL

I want to add these to some floor accent spotlights, which are here:

Is this the right bulb or do I need to buy the par 16 bulb?

I bought the E26 and E30 starter kit. I installed the E30 bridge and all lights work fine. I now added the e26 lightbulbs and it doesn't find them when I do a search.

Any ideas what can be wrong? It is possible to mix two different type of light bulbs with one bridge, right?

The bulbs are paired to the HUB inside the kit. You need to do a manual search in the APP and enter the serial number that is found on the bulb to force the bulb to join the new HUB.

Auto Search only works for unpaired lights.

I bought exactly this with exactly the same idea. Returned in a blink of an eye
