Dell Inspiron for gaming

GJG1040 310 134 April 25, 2016 at 08:49 AM More Dell Home & Office Deals
Dell has this gaming computer [dell.com] for $748 inc tax. I want an entry level computer for gaming for my 11 year old grandson. He plays games on steam like TF2. Would this work and is it a good deal?

TF2 is an old game (2007) so it should work fine with even integrated graphics. Your paying pretty much retail for that machine so not a bad price but not a slickdeal. I would look for one of those from the Dell Outlet and wait for a coupon or sale if that's the model your set on.

Personally I would aim more for a desktop if gaming gets serious or a smaller and lighter machine if its going to move around much (IE School use).

NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5
Yes that laptop has "discrete graphics". If gaming really is the objective a desktop is much more powerful.

You can get this from dell outlet with the 35% off coupon:
$291 AC Inspiron 3847 Desktop
Processor: Intel Core 4th Generation i5-4460 Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz)
Windows 8.1 (Free Upgrade to Windows 10 Home)
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (2x 4GB) Non-ECC
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)

Just add a video card and monitor.

or this, which is more powerful and has a lower end discrete video card but may not be worth twice the price.
$616 XPS 8900
Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
Windows 10 Pro
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC
16X DVD + RW Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 4GB GDDR3

Add a monitor

Here's an outlet laptop:
$499 AC Inspiron 15 - 5559
Processor: Intel Core 6th Gen i7-6500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx2) Memory
15.6 inch LED Backlit On-cell Touch Display with Truelife and FHD resolution (1920 x 1080)
8X DVD +/- RW Drive
Intel HD Graphics
The graphics aren't as powerful as the one in your OP, but are more powerful than the AMD R5 graphics on other outlet models.

coupon: QDD35%
