This is the same guitar that was $299 at Musicians Freind last week.

I bought one and LOVE it for the price.

I own a Gibson LP Tribute 50s and an Epiphone LP White lIghtning and this is the cheapest one and I still really enjoy it.

Pickups aren't As hot as the Seymour Duncan JBs' in the Lightning or the Gibson USA 490/498 in the 50s but are still pretty great, just more appropriate for vintage and classic rock tones.

Coil splitting is a nice feature at this price point too.

$299 with free shipping

Also, here is a beautiful case that I ordered to go with mine, thought others might like it too. Douglas ECG-200LP at Rondo Music http://www.rondomusic.com/egc200lptweed.html

Cost's about $78 shipped but it will keep your guitar in safety and style.

Here is the Epiphone product page with more specs and details too! http://www.epiphone.com/Products/...l-PRO.aspx

How was the setup?

I'm always afraid it's going to have fret buzz.

That and muddy pickups.

They're great budget Pauls for sure. I really dig my Gold Top and I own a "better" EPi and an actual Gibson LP.

Good find. Personally, I can't stand the ebony with the vintage knobs. Just a matter of preference but I prefer the look of the Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute in Ebony as it has vintage witch hat knobs with chrome and a really subdued gold.

More expensive for sure but also gets real Gibson USA pups and other perks..

As I say, I own two more expensive and arguably "better" pauls. This one is a huge surprise. The set up was a nice low action with no fret buzz anywhere, good intonation etc.

By way of comparison and contrast, my actual Gibson USA model arrived with warped pickup rings (bezels) and some slightly jagged edges on the fretboard.

The $299 gold top was near perfect.

Overall, out of the box, my EPi Tommy Thayer White Lightning was best of all three, but these LTD ED Traditional Pros are GREAT bang for buck models. Of course, as always YMMV but oth of my Epis were made in the Qingdao China factory and are beautiful players with no set up needed. Smilie

This is a thread about a Les Paul guitar. Showing a link to a floyd is the same as showing us acoustics or a double necked flying V...

They might be great guitars but not too many people on this thread will care.

laugh out loud

This is NOT the same as the AFD model and IS better quality. This guitars' MSRP and normal selling price is $499. It has features the Slash model doesn't.

Slash model pickups aren't as good, has a bolt on neck, one volume and tone control as opposed to two each on this model plus this model has actual grover tuners and push pull coil splitting. Wink

I got this LP clone a couple of years ago : http://www.amazon.com/Oscar-Schmi...B005AT3D64
No complains. The build quality is very good and action was very low with no buzz.
Just wondering if this Epi is noticeably different. I am suspecting these guitars are build in the same factory.

Epiphone has their own factory and only builds THEIR own guitars. The Oscar Schmidt you link is undoubtedly a fine instrument, (especially for the price they go for daily) but I dare say this would be better. It has a higher MSRP and every-day selling price, and Oscar Schmidt is just a name now, distributed by Washburn, not an actual, large and respected company with decades of experience and reputation.

EDIT, the website for OS acts as if the company has been in existence as OS since 1871 http://oscarschmidt.com/index.asp but they were bought by US Music Group which also owns Washburn and others..

A little more reading and I would say one way this guitar is DEFINITELY superior to the Oscar is the Grover tuners. The stock tuners on the OS don't stay in tune well according to some owners.

You're most welcome. It's a great guitar for $299 no doubt.
