Looking for a laptop that fits my needs

bilge656 11 10 April 25, 2016 at 12:05 PM More Micro Center Deals
I am a college student and recently damaged my laptop.

this one -

Luckily I had insurance taken out on it and I received $800 to get another device. I am looking to spend roughly that on the new one.

preferably, the laptop I'm looking for would have a similar graphics card and performance in general.

if it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, then it should be a little cheaper so I could potentially buy a ps4 instead. I'm willing to pay about $200 more for a macbook.

I don't need anything with an ssd because I have a 500 GB Samsung evo ssd that I will just swap in.

I'm looking at the Dell inspiron line, an upgraded version of my old laptop and the HP envy 13/spectre. I'm looking for quality build and battery life over graphics if I can't have both.

any suggestions?

thanks for the help!

Smaller as in a 13.3" or 14" or smaller as in weight on a 15.6"?

Also, if you don't object to a refurb, Dell has 48% off any item with code SAVE48NOW at dellrefurbished.com

weight mainly. screen size doesn't matter too much.

The Dell is 5,7 lbs; the Lenovo is 4.8 lbs.

Perhaps if you're more specific in what you're looking for. Your current laptop has an i7 with independent graphics and is 6 pounds. Must you have an i7?

oh I guess I misread it.

I'm sorry I should have done a better job specifying what I wanted.

an i5 is definitely good enough. I also want to avoid companies like Lenovo (support, reliability, recent scandals) and Acer (build quality and reliability) unless you can give a good reason to try them.

The last one you posted also just looks kinda odd, which definitely puts me off.

I appreciate your continued help.

I7 or i5. Independent graphics unless the price is worth it. 8GB RAM. HDD, Lightweight. No Lenovo or Acer. 15.6"; 14" or 13.3". Does this sum it up?

What is your weight requirement? Tough to the weight down without going SSD.

yup that sums it up. I already have an ssd I can swap in.

I was looking at an HP envy that had 940m graphics but now I can't find it. that was the closest thing I could find.

Maybe this is it - and the HP Envy you mentioned:

HP ENVY 14t
4.4 lbs
14.0-inch diagonal HD BrightView WLED-backlit Display (1366x768)
Windows 10 Home 64
1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
Backlit Keyboard
6th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ Processor Quad-Core + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 4GB Discrete Graphics
8GB DDR3L

$858.49 when using code HPSHOP15 at checkout

OR

The same configuration as above except with the 6th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U Processor Dual-Core + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940M 2GB Discrete Graphics for $645.99 with the same code

You may need to enter the code twice to get it to accept it
