Question about DDR4 Ram prices

Was looking at Ram prices for new computer. Bit confused since im not expert in RAM.

This one:
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz (PC4-21300) C16 Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M4A2666C16)
List Price: $327.99
Price: $82.99

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz (PC4-25600) C16 Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16)

List Price: $169.99
Price: $79.99 Free Shipping for Prime Members
You Save: $90.00 (53%)

Why is the 2nd one, clocked at 3200, cheaper than the first one, with list price that is 50% of first?? Am I missing something? Everything looks fairly comparible

Amazon MSRPs are way off usually. Slot of the time the MFG will update the MSRP but Amazon leaves the old one up. Lots of others do it as well but I find Amazon is way off.

As for why the price is more expensive for the slower ram Vs the faster at same total capacity. The former has four 4GB sticks while the latter has two 8GB sticks. You would need to check with your motherboard documentation but some can handle more channels of ram than two. If you have a three channel capable setup and only use two sticks of ram your missing out on the performance from the third channel.

The higher speed is good only if your motherboard can fully utilize that speed. Again back to the motherboard documentation.

I would go for the higher speed but fill all channels with my build. Again all depends on your mobo.

The first one is lower voltage, it's not quite a full apples-to-apples comparison of saying the second is faster when the first could most likely reach a similar speed if the voltage was raised slightly (but this would be outside of the official spec) - also, like burner noted, it's 4 sticks vs 2 sticks - there are reasons for preferring one over the other depending on your needs - either way, these are minor differences, and their actual prices are fairly close (~$80 each)

Cheaper at newegg:

the appearance of the heat spreader is of pretty low importance compared to the actual chips it obscures. This is why brands like crucial and kingston are desirable.
