DESCRIPTION:
The DuroMax XP4850EH Propane Generator is a powerful, gas and propane powered unit that will provide reliable power whenever you need it. It features the DuroMax Dual Fuel Technology is now capable of nearly doubling the lifetime of your generator by being able to run on cleaner burning propane from a bbq tank or main line. There are many advantages to running a Generator on Propane, including being easy to store, longer lasting, and more readily available during disasters. Switching over from gas to propane is easy and is done so with a simple flip of a fuel switch. By using Propane, it will also give you quicker, more steady starts everytime. It provides a constant 3,850 watts of power and a peak of 4,850 watts. This will adequately handle most household items needed in a emergency or power outage including refrigerator, lights, and other basic necessities.

Good thing to have during the upcoming hurricane season or for any other areas prone to power outages.

Good deal. Holding out for $300, though.

I bought 5 last time at $325 each. Flipped 4 for $400 each and kept 1. Net for my generator: $25 (actually $45 because I added a 3 year warranty from Assurant).

I wanted to look into getting a generator just in case we lose power. I just really want to keep the fridge, hot water heater and boiler running. Is this something that fits the bill? After talking to a few friends, they pretty much run a plug to the twist outlet for the electric dryer before killing the main. Any feedback on this?

If this is on here every 2 weeks, when does this deal not become "slick"?

This is not powerful enough for an electric hot water heater. They use 4500 to 5500 watts on average, depending on size. It will comfortably handle a fridge and boiler though.

I don't know if this is going to hit $300 again. Previously when I purchased they would ship regular FedEx, but the last time I bought at the $325 price it was sent via FedEx Freight which is more expensive. I suspect FedEx stopped allowing the seller to ship with regular FedEx and forced them to go freight.

Aside from being totally illegal, that works. I've got double male cords for a couple of different sockets (four and three pin) so I can plug into a welder outlet if needed. Power companies are very touchy about your doing this (and with very good reason) because if someone doesn't switch off a main breaker it can send power back into the grid and electrocute a lineman making repairs.

These are decent generators for the money, have bought three of them in the past and they work nicely for moderate loads. Got a couple of 15KW Generacs for whole house use (heat pump).

Retail stores (Walmart, Home Depot, etc) and a number of online retailers have dropped their prices from $600 to $470, making these much tougher to flip on Craigslist than before. Not sure if the $470 retail price is a temporary price drop or a permanent drop. Either way, not as attractive of a flipping opportunity as compared to last year.

Get an interlock kit. It is 2 pieces of metal that fit over your circuit panel and won't allow the main and a special generator feed circuit to both be on. It allows one or the other. They are made specific for each brand of circuit panel.

See the pictures after scrolling down on this page for an example of one installed
