for those who have had this before -where does this stand within the prepackaged beans(as opposed to freshly roasted) scale

These have been hit or missed when I've purchased. Some have a best by date in 2017 and one had a best by date of Oct 2016. There is no roast date so no one knows when they were roasted. Won't be as fresh as cafe fresh roasted but still better than ground coffee.

Also the beans are relatively still whole as opposed to other brands where you sometimes get crushed up beans mixed in.

I'd probably buy this in my home office where the PC is. /Rimshot

Seriously though, this is a solid deal. I'll never buy pre-ground coffee again from Amazon, but beans are a safer bet for sure.

Does anyone know how oily these beans are? I've previously used the super cream in my super-automatic, which worked great as they weren't oily at all. For those who don't know, the oily beans clog these machines.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that oily beans have been sitting around awhile.... sure all beans have some level of oil but excessivly oily is what I recall reading..

Please correct me if I am mistaken.....

I bit because I do love the crema and we will see how these do in my Aero Press.....

(....also FWIW you can roast beans at home)

Generally speaking, Lavazza makes a great bean, and for the price, this is a good buy. As others have said, they won't necessarily be the freshest beans you can buy, but they will be FAR from garbage. If a 10 is home roasted fresh, and 9 is locally roasted, these would be a 7 (IMO).

I regularly go for the Super Tuscan Espresso from theRoasterie.com...massive crema, great depth, and roasted to order. Absolutely delicious.

AFAIK The longer the bean is roasted the more oil will come out, so the darker the roast, the oilier the bean.

The Amazon descriptions for the three links posted say they are all Arabica/ Robusta blends. I do like Lavazza in general, but I like 100% Arabica beans for my espresso because it tends to be more sweet which is just my taste.

Good bean for a good price. I brew this at work and Don Pablo Signature Blend at home. The Don Pablo 5lb bag is an excellent price for a consistently good cup of pour over. The (seemingly weekly) deals on Lavazza give me the variety I need Smilie
