Nice! Was fishing around for a sub-$200 a month ago. Bought a Pioneer, which I haven't owned in 20 years. I would have bought this. I have a 2001 Yamaha which seems to be indestructible. (Then again, so are my 80s Onkyos) Everyone seems to be loving Yamahas, since Onkyos issues lately. Seems like a good deal!

This is indeed an excellent deal. Yamaha is good and for $200 I'll take 5.1 Yamaha over anything else. I believe this has Wifi as well.

Edit - I stand corrected - No Wifi.

Based on Amazon specs, this model does not have wifi.

I bought the older RX-V377 and it had buzzing sound from day 1. Got it fixed by Yamaha repair center and the buzzing noise came back in 4 months. Called Yamaha again and they swapped it with this RX-V379BL.
Anyway, the RX-V379BL has built-in blue-tooth but no Wifi. Also it no longer has the USB port of the older version that I really need because I use the 5 V in the USB output to switch on the Subwoofer, bluray player, etc.. (so they don't have to stay on all the time). Other than that the receiver works well.

can somebody please tell me what is wifi in Receiver is necessary for. I have the Yamaha 377 and I wish I had Bluetooth but I don't know why I would need WiFi.

Im in the market for one as well. biggest benefit i have found to having wifi is the apps and remote access to the unit from phone making setup and changing settings a breeze.

most wifi units also advertise built in apps such as Pandora and spotify but with Bluetooth you can easily stream from phone but if you walk out of room connection would stop

Maybe someone else can chime in with experience

I would think that WI-FI is preferred over Bluetooth as there is some signal degradation in the BT. I still use BT and love it but do notice a sonic difference between a cable and BT. Correct me if I am wrong.....

wifi is just a gimmick I have seen my friends who never use wifi on their receiver. I own this receiver more than 3 weeks. I connected to my 15 years old speakers and it changed the way I watch movies. for this price and spec i love it. To save sales tax talk to abt.com they will price match Amazon and save another 15$.

I have the v377 and it sounds beautilfully. There is no reason the v379 doesnt sound as good or better. I love yamaha receivers because of their natural sound and good built quality

Can someone shine some light on this for me please. I was at Best Buy looking at this unit and the blue shirt was slamming it because "it only has one HDCP2.2 out and another one in" said its not future proof. Now I do own a 4K tv and I don't pirate movies or any of that stuff. Mainly to watch movies, stream, and video games. Is this still a good unit, am I going to be forced into buying a new model in a couple years? Help...please and thank you

Great unit, have had mine for about 6 months now and it's been problem free. Have it in my game room connected to a 1080p TV, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, 4 tower speakers and a center speaker. Sounds great, easy to change settings. Bluetooth sounds perfect, no issues connecting.
