ATTENTION: YOU HAVE TO JOIN MASSDROP.COM TO SEE OR BUY.

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/mass...man-he-350

This is a collaboration special edition run between Hifiman and Massdrop.com (a membership site that basically makes group buys at a discount). There are 5000 units available. I wouldn't have posted this to the masses if there weren't such a large cap.

Bang-for-buck looks top-notch:

DRAWBACK: THEY WILL NOT SHIP UNTIL AUGUST 5. But... HIFIMAN for $99?!

EDIT:
USER abbazaba14 has posted a link for guests to see the drop -

Here's a link to see the HE-350 product on Massdrop as a guest:

Posted at Headfi by massdrop:
"The HE-350 ($99.99) is an open-back dynamic headphone. We started with the HE-300, replaced the driver, updated the frame to HiFiMAN's newest revision, and updated the removable cables to use HiFiMAN's latest 2.5mm termination (at the earcups, cable ends in a 3.5mm).
Understanding this will be a first headphone for many, we (and our participating community members) decided to focus on neutrality and detail. No huge bass, no massive peaks or valleys, ~12dB delta between highest and lowest point from 20Hz to 15,000Hz. Take a look at the frequency response graph on our drop page (courtesy of Head-Fi). This is a new driver developed by HiFiMAN with a mandate from Massdrop to "redefine the price-to-performance standard". At $99.99 we've raised the bar.

The spokesman for Massdrop that is answering most of the questions in the discussion says that these have a more neutral sound signature than the old HE-300's, which were known as dark cans.

For those who are not already familiar with Hifiman these are open-backed headphones. They leak sound and that is part of their inherent design. Everyone around you will hear what you are hearing.

For some reason SD is messing up the link in the OP to superbestaudiofriends forum. It keeps changing slashes to % and adding garbage at the end.

Here it is in full so you can copy/paste if you want:

Wow that is a crazy cheap set of Hifimans. I LOVE my HE-500s, but I wonder for $99 how these will sound. Wish they werent open back so I could pick up a pair for work. Still considering the Oppo PM-3s for work since they are closed back but they are three times the price.

They also released an inexpensive pair of IEMs: the RE-00: LINK [massdrop.com]. $35 shipped aint bad.

These are NOT planars, hence the low price. Not to say they're bad, we'll see I guess. I'm still hesitant whether I need yet another set of dynamic open cans.

OOOOOOOkay, yea that does make a huge difference. I didnt catch that. I was thinking: damn, how did they make planars for $99!? Thanks for pointing that out. Might just pick up the IEMs then.

I'm tempted to try these out. $99 is silly money.

I picked up Fostex T50RP MK3 planars for $90 AR off of BHPhoto, which I found to be superior to the HE-400i.

Was just looking at a set of open headphones for the HTC Vive. How does these compare to the Sennheiser $99 558 and $129 598? They are all 50mm drivers but it seems sennheiser has a better range.

I can't answer that but do keep in mind that these will not ship until August 5 or thereabouts.

I ended up not buying these. I have a pretty decent line of headphones and my HD600's will sound better regardless. Solid purchase if you're looking for something right below an HD598 or around that par Smilie
