Sweet Deal! How does buydig keep getting these crazy deals?

Is this lens really shorter than the Canon 2.8 II at 200mm?

I'm not sure it matters at half the price and the option of adding a $150 Tamron 1.4x teleconverter, but figure I should ask.

Will I be happy with the Canon version of this, or will I ultimately regret not spending the extra $$ for the Canon 70-200 2.8 II? Esp. concerned about autofocus performance.

Alternatively, Abe's of Maine has the Nikon mount for $1,019 without dealing with rebates (I dunno if $100 tamron rebate will work with Abe's, probably not as Abe's is likely grey market and the buydig looks legit?).

Abe's is grey market, you get 0 warranty from Tamron. With this, you get 6 years of warranty.

when I click the link it is listed for $1,499. Doesn't say anything about the rebate. Is it still active?

.. and a 8%Ebay Bucks offer showed up for me about an hour ago too. So another $100 in effect.
Very tempting.

Be careful with the slickdeals rebate. You must read the blog very closely.
My submission was denied at first because of the receipt/invoice. Those same docs were accepted by tamron.

Canon's version has a higher resale value.

My thought exactly. "Make sure your toes are crossed and we honor the deal" sounds pretty bogus.

$949 (1 left) and $959 from authorized US retailers on eBay with no rebate BS.... Sad that this is what passes as a "slick deal" when the site is getting kickbacks for it

Not really when the price point is so low on the Tamron.. They sell for 850-950 used on the bay, so call it 900 average minus fees would be about 800 or 80% of this price. The Canon 70-200 IS II sells for 1950 new and 1450-1550 used on the bay. call it 1500 minus fees would be 1300 or 65% of new, plus you have to spend 1k more up front...
