1gb will hold a lot of shows. Smilie

If it's the same as the orig ota but with 1tb, then $100 more than last lifetime sale for 500gb, but not bad. But if you're going to upgrade, might as well put at least 2tb.

You can also offload shows to your PC on same network, but I haven't tried that yet so not sure how well it works.

$300 prior price was for 500GB drive, this has 1GB (assume same # tuners etc.)
Not really a great deal for the extra 500GB, but at least it's available and not sold out like the old deal.

Best bolt price has been just over $200 with 1 year of service, so the lifetime at $400 here is still good. Assume the price will drop just like the bolt did.

Outstanding! I may just get another one for the basement at that price.

Don't even settle for 1TB. It's super easy to install a larger drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMDf28vdcdM

Does replacing the hard drive void the warranty?

This is a smart move by TiVo.
They'll sell more boxes this way & ppl actually might want to keep upgrading to newer TiVo's in the future without the monthy fee.

The kmttg program works great for moving shows to network storage. Can customize the folder organization and file naming based on show details (i.e. show, season, episode, etc.). Extracts episode details into a text file. Extracts closed captions into SRT. Can re-encode.

Then you can use StreamBaby to play them on the Tivo directly from the network shares without having to copy them back to the Tivo.

I remember fighting years and never being able to get my HTPCs to work like this... Wish I'd gone Tivo sooner.

Not sure the official position, but you can just swap the original back in for warranty service.

Got one @ Amazon last month for $299 (+tax). They load up 10-20 at times still, just have to catch it at the right time.

edit: This was the 500GB version.

It is super easy to swap out the HDD in these guys, but in the absence of the $300 500GB deal, this is still a pretty solid deal.

I dropped a 2TB drive into mine back in December and I still haven't reached even 50% HDD usage, even with all the TiVo suggestions, so 1TB should still be more than enough for most people. Then again, if you're a show hoarder, you might still want to perform a HDD upgrade.
