Found these silicon padded bike shorts on sale for $7.80 after coupon. They aren't very flattering looking so they must make up for it in comfort. That seems to be the rule of thumb for bike shorts eh?

Yes, we are all aware that the image looks like a baboon's ass. These shorts are inside out, in order to show the seat padding insert that protects you from your bike saddle. Additionally, they are intended to be worn under regular shorts, and ideally never seen.

Yes, they run very small. Order at least one option bigger than you think you should.

Otherwise these are decent shorts on a budget. There is a small amount of silicone gel directly under the hip bones, but the rest is standard foam. The material is more like old football jersey or basketball shorts material. Its not as effective as a lycra chamois, but it does the job. Certainly more than 8 dollars worth of protection.

Took the unit out for a 30 mile ride, 1st 10 miles work pretty good, help with the soreness factor, next 20 not some much. So if you going for a shorter ride, then it should be fine.

I switched my saddle to a cheap $15 one, and no more problems. The saddle is a generic one, but well known on bike forums. Half the time, I don't even use padded shorts, even though I have them. I do 20 mile rides, considered a short ride in the roadie world.
