I had/have this computer, but with the upgraded processor, 8gb ram, and 256ssd. I got one with an additional battery in the keyboard too, but that battery in the keyboard wasnt recognized as an authorized/official dell battery and therefore didnt work out. I will say I liked it, it was plenty quick for surfing the web, the screen was nice, touch response was good/as expected, its silent, no fan, good build quality. A couple things to keep in mind would be that the screen doesnt go very far back when in the keyboard. This is presumably to keep it from tipping backward as all the weight is in the tablet/screen part of the computer. Even still, it seems like it is pretty close to tipping back when you open it all the way. I wished it would go back a little further than it did as a lot of times it seemed just not quite angled right when in my lap. Also, as you may know/expect, it is big for a tablet. Its definitely better suited to be used as a laptop than tablet.

That said, dell support has been an incredible pain, huge frustration, and massive time waster trying to get the battery issue resolved and a replacement ordered. I updated all drivers, bios, updated to windows 10. Tried everything I could think of and I couldnt get it to work, so I called Dell. I talked to 5 different reps in one phone call, got hung up on, chatted, emailed, called back and finally got through to someone who said theyd send a tech out and the tech guy would call to set up a time to stop by.

They sent a tech out to try to repair the keyboard battery issue, but he first showed up out of the blue without ever contacting me and I didnt have the computer with me (he came to where I work, computer was at my home). We rescheduled for 2 days later. He called 2 days later saying he misplaced the repair parts and had to re-order them. 2 days later he came back to try to repair it.

Not only did he not fix it, but after he was done the entire keyboard base no longer worked. This was April 8. For whatever reason he couldnt order a replacement computer for me, so I had to call back and order a replacement. Was told I would get it in 5-7 days. 7 days pass, I email asking for an update. No response. I email a different tech that helped me, no response from her either. I wait 3 days and email again. I wait a few more days, but again get no response of any kind. I chat and they say it is in the process of being replaced and they will escalate my case. I ask about the status of the replacement and they cant give me any info other than "its in process." I wait a few more days, chat again, they say my case has been escalated already and a supervisor will contact me "immediately." I also asked if they could let me know when Id get it, but they had no idea when the replacement would come. Mind you there was an identical system in the outlet, so they had to have a replacement on hand. A week goes by and no contact from anyone.

I call yesterday and again cant get any idea of when the replacement is coming. I ask to return the item, but I cant return it because the replacement is in process and I have to wait to get the replacement before they can issue a return. Its frustrating to buy a computer, spend hours and hours trying to get it fixed and replaced and any information about what is going on and just have the computer sit broken for a month.

My take away from this - DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to get a Dell computer fixed. Just straight away demand a replacement or simply return it and buy a different one.

Since this one doesnt seem to have the keyboard battery, id imagine it'd be fine and you wont have any issues with it.

And sorry for the ridiculously long post.

Drives me crazy too, but a lot of people use the SD app and I've noticed it doesn't even provide an option for a reason.

I know people could post with opinions and input, although that seems like a lot to ask from everyone who votes.

It's a tough call, but for I'd go with the Surface and then drop some extra cash on the powered type cover. I really value battery value life and the Surface Pro 2 + power type cover is excellent in that regard. Oh, and I'd also factor in the active digitizer with the Surface Pen on the SP2 if that's something thats important to you as well.

As this video demonstrates [youtube.com], only the M.2 SSD can be swapped. RAM is soldered to the mainboard.
