I found some deals on Chippewa boots. The leather quality is not quite as good as the Red Wing Heritage line, but not bad for half the price.

Discount only applies to select items shipped and sold by Amazon.com which are eligible for Free Returns. Deal ends midnight 4/30.

Chippewas are a great alternative to redwings. I bought a pair last year and the leather has held up through the winter. highly recommend

This should get more upvotes. It's definitely a good price for high quality and fashionable boots.

Good price for these boots. If I didn't already have Wolverine 1000 mile boots I would buy.

Not all Chippewas are made in the USA anymore but they are fantastic quality for a great price.

Amazon clearances out their inventory at least 2x a year. I got a pair of the black engineer boots for $58 with prime around Christmas.

Good if made in the USA. If not, definite return to store.

I bought the 20066 Steel Toe Apache back in May of 2013, they were priced at $106, but that was back when Amazon was doing $20 off shoes, so I got em for $86.

I bought a half size down (as recommended). They're the best looking pair of steel toe boots I've ever owned, got lots of compliments on them. The soles are both comfortable and light, and it took about 2 years of moderate use to wear out the heels. I replaced the soles with a Vibram V-bar soles and a matching heel, the V-bars are not as comfortable and they're noticeably heavier, but they'll likely last the life of the boot. I'm on my third pair of laces and I put new insoles in every year (currently have the dr scholls odor x ultra cools). The uppers get cleaned and Obenaufed a few times a year and they still look like new.

If you have to wear steel toes, I don't think there's a better boot available for the money:

The Chippewa 6" has become my all time favorite boot. Own a few Red Wings, also nice, but by Chippy's are my everyday boots. The Apache in particular really gets a nice patina after some wearing. Anything south of a $100 on these is a steal.

Thanks! Been wanting the red wings boot, but instead bought my dad and myself a pair of these. Hopefully they're as good!

How did you replace the sole?

He likely took them to a cobbler. Quality shoes/boots usually have soles that are stitched to the uppers and can be easily replaced, as long as the uppers remain in good condition.

Remember a lot of Redwing boots are made in China now.

I paid $50-$60 to have a cobbler replace the soles. Going with a separate sole and heel means that in the future, I'll be able to pay a cobbler to replace just the heels when they wear out, which should cost around $15.
