You download a VR app like google cardboard and it produces two images one under each lens and it will produce a 3D image.

What can we really use it for? Just asking.... not aware what content is out there to view through these.... and ohh whether that content is free....

Not a bad deal, even if you throw out the cardboard and just keep the lenses.

this is like 3d glasses.
you download an app that distorts your images and the lenses angle it correctly to make it appear "VR"

Not really like 3d glasses? If you've never used Google Cardboard, you need t get one of these. Very fun to play with. The glasses actually divide the left/right views, and your phone is installed in the glasses, and each eye gets its own image. The image appears to you in 3D and looks great. However, the cooler thing is, with the apps that go with this, moving your head side to side and up and down and totally around in 360 make your brain think you are actually in the location. Be VERY careful, for example, the chances of putting these on and walking/falling down a flight of stairs is very real. With these on you think you are somewhere else.

You can also EASILY film your own environments using your phone. Maybe you want to show your backyard or new kitchen remodel or the view from the pier in a big city ... take the video and there you go!

Buy these or some other cardboard viewers, download the apps. Thumbs up to the poster. This is fun for all ages. You have to get one of these. Note; these often have a very simple magnetic switch capability with them that allows you to look and select stuff on your phone while the phone is in the glasses. Some phones need the magnet switch device to be moved to the other side, top or bottom, etc., in order to get this to work. Please don't ask me for tech advice, I'm not an expert, but get one of these and you're welcome!

that wasn't the question. he's asking what apps or content is available in VR. as far as I know, its limited to a some basic games, videos, pictures, and a couple "adult" applications, for the most part. others can chime in.
