I just wanted to blow off some steam. I grew up in a world pre-NES, and have been hooked on Nintendo all through my childhood. With the exception of the Wii, I have owned all Nintendo systems. I finally went out an bought a Wii U excited for the games that were coming out. That's before the announcement of the NX, the announcement of the latest Zelda getting delayed, the revelation that the new Starfox can only be played with motion controls, and that 2016 is a throwaway year for releases. I feel like I just dropped a colossal amount of money for a system, games, and controllers that are essentially good for nothing with that NX coming. This was after not learning my lesson by buying a 3DS to find that there was a New 3DS coming that makes mine obsolete.

In short, Nintendo's recent console history mixed with the obnoxiously high values of sub-pay Nintendo games have me prepared to never buy another system again. They need to just go and make games and leave the consoles to others.

You're a horrible mistake.

In all seriousness there are dozens of amazing games for you to play on that machine. Even more if you count the backwards compatibility of the Wii which you alleged to have skipped. The Wii U has been rumored to be end of life for over a year now, not sure why you're surprised by any of this.

I second all of this.

All of what was previously said, plus it came out in 2012, and the NX doesn't come out for another year. There are plenty of good games to play, Star Fox was made better with the motion controls in my opinion (once you're used to them) but you CAN disable them anyway, so... I agree with none of your points.

Didn't learn your lesson after the Virtual boy?

Anyway, look at gbatemp forums. There's some hacks for the Wii U now to play homebrew and other things.

Learned my lesson at this point. Wii was shovelware central with a few good titles mixed in. I guess I don't see the dozens of great games when I go through the lists. Maybe I'm missing out on some games I haven't heard of. Sinister, I'm happy to hear I can disable the motion controls. I was very excited about Star Fox, but never been a fan of most motion controls as they rarely share the movements with the action you are actually taking. I would be willing to give it a go, but glad to know I can turn it off.

I know the game numbers go up when you discuss multiplatform releases, but I'm looking at exclusives as the reason to buy a console over another. Perhaps those numbers also go up when taking into account digital games? I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any recommendations.

Keep waiting. It is looking more and more like this console will skip a Zelda release. I was thinking they would pull a Twilight Princess and release on the Wii then again on the WiiU but at this point it wouldn't make sense.

Nintendo won't be making any more sales on the WiiU given all the news out there of them ceasing production of it.

If they want anyone to buy another Nintendo console they will need Zelda out nearly at release or it will simply die. Putting Zelda on the U will slow adoption of the new and may stop it altogether.

They announced next Zelda launches in March 2017 and will be dual release like TP. They also announced that Wii U may cease production in 2018, a year after NX has been out. You're behind the times, mate.

Yeah, you will have the fans, but the Wii U hurt my opinion of Nintendo, regardless of the dozens of good games, I maybe just don't get it. I know I'm the minority on this SD forum based on my post, but I think the NX is going to underperform with sales. I know PS4.5 is coming along and whatever Xbox is working on, but it sounds like upgradable hardware is everyone is leaning. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo is going that route. My initial thought is a heavier leaning on the VR headsets as their gimmick this me. We'll see I guess.

I also bought it for a Zelda release, but was at least enjoying the rereleases as I loved Wind Waker and never played Twilight Princess. It will be nice when the new one comes out. It's been a while. Maybe it annoyed me that the games are lackluster while there was such a huge push on these Amiibo figurines. I'm not 10, so that side of it doesn't appeal to me at all. I'll check out the top 25 list though.

I have failed you in all important ways Bonk.

Now that you are here, do you know if Nintendo is attempting to do anything new with the NX in order to start bringing some AAA games to the system?

Seriously. You owe me a beer.

All we know about NX is that Zelda will be on it, it will release next March, and it gives reacharounds, plus blowjobs if you buy the add-on. Also, it won't be at E3 this year and is not just a Wii/WiiU upgrade. Expect more information later in the year via Nintendo Direct.

and you mean AAA third party titles. Plenty of AAA titles. Only 3rd party ones are from early on and/or last gen, though.

EDIT: apparently Nintendo Prez said that it won't be sold at a loss and insinuated that the launch is being held back in order to have more software ready for sustained release throughout the year.

That's all anyone can hope for. I did manage to finally find that promo video for Zelda I originally saw nearly a decade ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_fyOkrteqM

Initially it was just about 20 seconds from the middle where the things falls from the ceiling. If the game actually looks that decent it may be worth grabbing a WiiU on sale just for that and Star Fox. The development time on this game really didn't help the U.

If it managed to release a couple of years ago it would have been interesting to see how well the console would have been doing now.
