Canon has the refurbished Rebel T5 kit with $350 in instant savings, which gets the camera kit down to $249.98. This is a good price for an entry camera and lens kit. Same kits are selling for $350 on Ebay right now.

Looks like for $10 more you get a slightly different 75-300 lens that sells elsewhere for $30 more- dunno if there's much of a real diff though

You mean this?

Double the price online, and out of stock... even at your quoted price it's $100 more for a bag and a tiny memory card- if you can find one that's both on clearance AND in stock anymore.

The $249 deal is factory refurb, with a factory 1 yr warranty (which becomes 2 years if you use a decent credit card)

Great deal considering you could probably invest the excess in a decent lens and still come out ahead of buying new.

Is this a lot better than the EOS Rebel XS?

I'm an ebay powerseller using and EOS rebel XS now- not thrilled with the autofocus and that camera is 10 years old.

Ten years old ?
This one may be a little better. The lenses are not the greatest but for $250 very good deal.

Keep the T3, the T5 is not a terribly significant upgrade.

Anyone have an educated guess how much I could get for the F 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Lens on Craig's List?

I got $120 from mine. They're worth typically closer to $80-100 these days.
If (as another poster mentioned) you can get the STM lens above for $10, JUMP on that. That's a $125-$150 lens new, 2nd hand. I've seen them hit SD for about $130.
